The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) Primary Care Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for promoting quality nursing care for Veterans in a primary care setting. Major Duties:
The Program Support Assistant (MHV) will assist in providing critical, timely and effective communication in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs On-line Personal Health Record, My HealtheVet (MHV), Social Networking Media and Secure Messaging (SM) components. You will serve as the facility champion supporting existing and future veteran communication initiatives. You will execute local program implementation, providing training and outreach to Veterans and their families with the goal of optimizing Veterans' healthcare management.

Outreach: Promotes the use of MyHealtheVet (MHV) by advertising the program, promoting MHV through interaction with Veterans and with employees, and attending community events. Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) for Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The incumbent will be responsible for promoting a culture of safety and will fully cooperate in efforts to improve patient safety and eradicate potential events including the reporting of events resulting in actual or potential injury to a patient. The primary duties of the Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) may include but are not limited to:

• Providing sterilization, preparation, supply items and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support for the medical center. Including instrumentation (scissors, forceps, retractors, etc.), reusable medical equipment (suction machines infusion pumps, etc.)
• Receiving contaminated critical and semi-critical RME in decontamination area and may receive noncritical equipment in the decontamination area as well.

• Develops and updates program materials that inform Veterans and their families of Pain Medicine services and benefits available to them within VHSO, as well as educate VA staff on Pain Medicine services.

• Conducts progressive outreach to locate and identify Veterans in need of pain services and PMOP Program Initiatives provided by VHSO. This includes travel within the VHSO catchment area that help to identify and maintain relationships within those local communities.
• Identifies resources and programs within local communities.
• Coordinates calls with stakeholders.

• Coordinates enrollment and helps veterans and pain to apply for and understand applicable VA benefits specific to healthcare in pain management and other PMOP initiatives.
• Acquaints new admissions and veterans in pain to pain Medicine/PMR & PMOP program.
• Engages directly with veterans and pain to help address patient care and service delivery concerns assist with responding to inquiries from the P-mop program office and specialty ICC, 2 include direct follow up with veterans in pain.

• Performs program analysis that involves collection, tracking, compilation and trending of statistical information in support of the Pain Medicine Section programs and PMOP services.
• Prepares, executes and/or tracks program specific information, such as mandatory training, missed opportunities, and team educational needs to promote effective and efficient growth of the Pain Medicine Section, PMOP Program, and the Pain Management Team.
• Established protocols for incoming data and develops/organizes computerized datasets for clinical and administrative initiatives.

The duties of the Nursing Assistant in the Nursing Service include, but are not limited to:

• Assists patients/residents with activities of daily living, i.e., bathing, shaving, feeding, oral hygiene, ambulation, dressing, etc. Assists lower graded Nursing Assistants in the completion of these duties as well.
• Assists Registered Nurses, therapists and others in the rehabilitation and or providing care for patients/residents. Assures the residents are prepared to engage in therapy as much as possible.
• Ability to use clean and aseptic technique to perform various non-medicine treatments, i.e., wound cleansing, applying dressings, performing catheter care, applying external catheters, performing perianal care and monitoring for early signs of breakdown - notifies Registered Nurses, etc.
• Cares for patient/resident and prevents complications of limited mobility or immobilization by turning, maintaining proper body alignment, range of motion exercises, assists with deep breathing and cough.
• Encourages and provides adequate nutrition and hydration within ordered diet. Assists with observation and monitoring of enteral feeding and/or gastro tube and notifies Registered Nurses of concerns or issues. Accurately monitors intake and output and daily weights as ordered.
• Monitors intravenous fluids by informing the nurse of the need to add fluids, any alarm and any patient/resident concerns. Monitors for pain, leakage, swelling or redness at site and notifies nurse immediately.
• Is a leader in activities that promote safety for the veteran and others in the work area, including, but not limited to, performing monitoring of the patient safety monitoring system after completion of orientation and completion of competency demonstration. Assists with safety monitors such as hand hygiene, safety support or others.
• Performs other duties as assigned for the position. Precepts and trains new and lower graded staff in functions of Nursing Assistants.
• Provides patient care in a timely manner, recognizing and responding to physical, psychological, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients.
• Establish a positive rapport with family/caregiver, internal and community-based services and disciplines involved in providing care to the patient.
• Makes caring for the veteran his/her priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work.
• Assists the RN in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
• Participates in the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
• Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Administers care per established policies and guidelines.
• Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participates in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
