Administration:

The PM&R Pain is responsible for delivery of pain and rehabilitative care for outpatient PM&R Pain clinics including medication management and interventional management. This position is Pain Management, Opioid Safety and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PMOP) funded position.

The principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides comprehensive pain and rehabilitation care to veterans through clinical evaluation and treatment within the outpatient Pain Program, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) clinics and inpatient care as needed.
• Performs medication management including opioids, spine and other pain procedures, ultrasounds, non-medication management of pain including physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, etc. and conducts Pain and PM&R clinics as needed and comply by all PMOP requirements.

The incumbent serves as a Medical Technologist, performing the full range of duties in all areas of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service as assigned. - Manage assignments and appropriate care utilizing the following software programs (CPRS, HSRM, PPMS, Vista Access, Vista Scheduling, REFDOC, FAXCOM, SEOC, EPCS and Fax Queue.

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-11. At the GS-9 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Oversees all aspects of the Research Service fiscal program in conjunction with the Administrative Officer (AO) and Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Research, and to strategically plan, prepare, and carry out the fiscal program for Research Service, both immediate and long-range plans.
• Develops budgetary plans, projections, and reports, and to interpret information received from Office of Research and Development (ORD), the individual VA Research programs, Fiscal Service, and other sources.
• Serves as an expert on research-related budgetary policies, precedents, goals, objectives, regulations, and guidelines.
• Reviews and assures grants budget requests are complete, appropriate, and justified for project needs to determine an appropriate starting date.
• Assembles historical data on costs trends, and forecasts, allocates and tracks fiscal expenditures and human resources demand.
• Provides broad administrative support to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Administrative Officer (AO), and Principal Investigators (PIs) on research study expenditures, budget, funds, and reports.
• Maintains cost accounting ledgers for current and prior year appropriations assigned to research.
• Formulates and executes short-and-long term budget plans.
• Reconciles cost control records with monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal reports.
• Advises investigators on purchasing habits, including quarterly and yearly allocations.
• Performs financial audits of accounts and financial records to certify or attest that financial statements fairly represent the financial position of Research and Development (R&D).
• Monitors contracts and submits timely extensions.

• Identifies and implements opportunities to automate or simplify financial processes to allow accurate and efficient tracking, retrieval, and reporting of Center and individual grant financial activities while minimizing data entry errors.
• Prepares a variety of management reports related to the status of funds, expenses, obligations, employees, and workload, adjusting to ensure accurate portrayal of status of funds.
• Serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) designee for the service and oversees areas of acquisition administration and contractor's performance.
• Serves as the service's focal point to resolve problems or conflicts that may arise between research investigator, vendors, and the procurement staff.

Major duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Has a broad knowledge of routing modified diets, combinations of diet modifications and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) dietetics software
• Handles patient meal service orders in person or by phone
• Interacts with Veterans, dietitians, nursing staff, and other medical center employees
• Receives patient meal orders and preferences, meal and nourishment requests from nursing, clinical staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Takes whatever action necessary, within authority, to maximize patient satisfaction with meal service
• Completes select and non-select menus as required
• Retrieves computerized information to assist with tray and/or nourishment assembly such as standing orders, nourishment labels, tabulated recipe lists, and other simple information to assist in meal delivery
• Provides education and information on local facility therapeutic diets to patients, guests, and nursing staff
• Assists patients in selection of the proper foods according to their individual diet
• Performs clerical and administrative duties in support of the service

Wage Grade 4 Food Service Workers independently perform duties that require proficiency in special procedures. They require a broad knowledge of service operations, such as food and beverage preparation, modified diets, computer proficiency, dishwashing, dry and refrigerated storage, and safety and sanitation. Wage grade 4 workers can do all the duties of a lower grade worker, but also may help with making patient selections, thickening items and checking trays.

Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Set up assigned station on the tray line with the correct supplies and food items
- Serve food cafeteria style by placing uniform portions of food on customers'/patients'/residents' plates
- Break down and clean the station when assigned
- Set up dining room tables for service, place food and beverages on tables, and replenish items as necessary
- Return soiled trays and dishes to the dish room
- Deliver meal trays to the patients' bedsides and report the patients' comments and complaints to the supervisor or dietitian
- Prepare beverages according to the number of servings required
- Prepare fresh fruit/cold salads/dressings/sandwich fillings and cold sandwiches and simple cold desserts in specified quantities
- Sort, wash, peel and cut cold foods using knives or other equipment
- Provide assistance to cooks in the food preparation area, such as weigh, measure and assemble ingredients according to standardized recipes
- Prepare uncooked food items, such as sandwich spread and salad dressings
- Operate and break down and clean all equipment assigned to food service and related areas

- Make final check of diet trays assembled by lower grade workers for completeness, correct food temperatures

- Decide what food items to serve for the most common diets when the diet card or tray ticket identifies only the kind of diet called for
