About the Role

You will be part of The Straits Times Visualisation team that drives and implements an audience-first strategy in the newsroom, finding innovative ways to showcase and amplify content to various audiences across different platforms.

As a Deputy to Interactive Graphics Editor, you will lead the digital graphics design team to consistently deliver creative editorial projects across multiple platforms of The Straits Times. You will be responsible for generating ideas to create graphics, conduct research, identify relationships and trends in data.

The candidate will collaborate with the newsroom to drive more visual and interactive storytelling, manage and produce interactive graphics and identify appropriate stories and topics for daily graphics and long-term projects.

Responsibilities

• Write, design and help the team's developers build visual stories for the newsroom, including data visualisations and a wide variety of visual formats for storytelling.
• Carry out investigative journalism/research with journalists using data, including finding/verifying data sources.
• Use various statistics and data science tools for data parsing, scraping and wrangling. Access APIs or external data sources where necessary.
• Manage workflow and process for data-driven and visual stories in the newsroom
• Use analytics to evaluate stories and propose changes to workflow, concepts
• Represent the Graphics department at news meetings
• Oversee and art direct a staff of designers, developers
• Work with social media team to promote graphics
• Organise schedules and information for each project, ensuring that artwork delivery deadlines

Job Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics or computer science
• Prior experience in the media industry would be advantageous
• Comfortable in either two or more of the following: journalism and/or reporting; data visualisation and/or infographics design; front-end web development; or data analysis programming.
• Experience working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript including one frontend framework (React, VueJS, Svelte) is essential.
• Experience building interactive graphics using libraries such as d3.js and Mapbox. Experience with serverless computing (AWS) is an advantage
• Experience with one or more common databases, SQL, scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) is preferred.
• Familiar with the latest digital storytelling, data journalism and visual trends.
• Strong knowledge of interaction design, layout, colour and typography.
• A team player, willing to share and support other team members
• Attention to details, and demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Able to work on a flexible schedule, that may include nights, or weekends

About the Role

We are seeking a talented, driven and digitally-savvy supervisor to join the ST Now desk, to guide a team of reporters in creating compelling content for both our digital and print platforms. The team handles breaking and trending news, both locally and globally.

The ideal candidate should have at least 8-10 years in journalism and experience in leading a group of reporters, including assigning and editing copy across a wide range of topics, story types and formats. A candidate with prior on-ground reporting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify critical news developments and trending stories that are relevant to ST’s audience. You will quite often be required to make quick, sound editorial decisions
• Manage a team of reporters and edit their stories to ensure the content is accurate, engaging, comprehensive, of high quality and published in a timely manner
• Guide reporters in copytasting and curating foreign news for ST
• Coordinate with ST’s other sections on story development and evergreen content production
• Ensure that all content is optimised for SEO and social media

Key Requirements:

• Have a sharp news sense with the ability to identify information gaps, edit and produce quality stories under tight deadlines

The Business Times (BT) is South-east Asia’s leading business publication based in Singapore, the region’s financial hub. As an audience-centred digital news publisher, we are looking for meticulous individuals with an eye for detail who are ready to work in a fast-paced, real time environment to deliver high-quality content to our readers.

In the Sub-Editor role, you will work closely with BT’s editors, digital/print content and audience teams to ensure a high standard of editorial content that is optimised for a digital audience across BT’s platforms, including (but not limited to) its website, apps and multimedia offerings.

Responsibilities

• Swiftly edit copy into tight, clear and readable stories before they are published on BT’s various platforms
• Conduct fact-checking to ensure accuracy and identify logical leaps or holes in reporting.
• Write headlines and captions, select images, and improve story ledes
• Assist with real-time story choices for BT’s homepage, oversee and send push notifications
• Assist with digital content optimisation, including adding hyperlinks to stories, embedding video and other mobile-friendly visual content, tagging content

Requirements

Job Role and Responsibilities:

As an Assistant Sports Editor, you will be required to work with the sports team to curate and manage content for online, the newspaper and social media.

The job requires you to work closely with the reporters on the team to conceptualise and shape stories (news, features, interactives) for the section.

You will also identify foreign wires stories for the sports section and pages, and work with a team of copytasters, designers and sub-editors to curate content for both online and the newspaper. This will include story packages and interactives on foreign and Singapore sports.

A keen interest and knowledge in sport, both local and foreign, is required and experience in the sports industry will be a plus. The successful candidate should have the ability to spot a good story and work with the team to deliver it to our readers/viewers via the different platforms.

Job Requirements

The Straits Times is looking for an Assistant Newsletter Editor. The right person for the job is a team player, who is strong on content and also understands data well.

Responsibilities

• Supervise content, performance and growth of ST's various newsletters, and curate some of the titles
• Track the key performance metrics of these newsletters, shape and drive a strategy for their growth
• Lead cross-functional discussions and collaboration with other stakeholders such as Consumer Division and Marketing on subscribers-only newsletters, sponsored newsletters or newsletters that are part of bulk sales
• Suggest and supervise new experiments to grow the audience for these products, and to identify potential new titles
• Good understanding of audience segmentation analytics and come up with ways to apply them to daily work, and keep abreast of the best industry trends and practices
• Deliver in-depth reports on performance, audience growth, with proposals for implementable next steps
• You will be expected to use the CMS to set up, make changes and deploy newsletter titles on your own

Requirement
