The Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre opened at the Hammersmith Hospital in November 2005 and has become the largest facility of its kind in Europe.

We have 4 inpatient wards totaling 71 beds (12 HDU) and a programmed investigation unit offering a ward attender/day case service of 18 beds.

The service also has an acute haemodialysis unit, 9 satellite dialysis units, peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis teams; nurse led chronic kidney disease team, Live donor team and 2 outpatient clinics looking after over 3,100 patients on renal replacement therapy.

We currently have a Named Nurse Safeguarding Adult whose banding is under review to make it a higher band. The post is line manager for safeguarding adult nurses and the learning disability and autism nurses. The post oversees the patients where DoLS applications have been submitted as well as close liaison with the tissue viability nurses and ensuring reasonable adjustments are in place for those that require it as well as overseeing the domestic abuse provision and response across the Trust. It is a wide-ranging position and will suit someone who can work well under pressure and in a varied environment.

Our team covers a seven-day service (9-5 hours) across five separate sites, one of which is a Trauma Centre. There is also an ophthalmology hospital and a dedicated maternity service on two of the other sites. We conduct training, safeguarding supervision; attend and co-ordinate many safeguarding meetings as well as assisting with knowledge around DoLS applications; MCA cases, best interest cases and court of protection cases.

As a Named Nurse Safeguarding Adults you will also attend Safeguarding Adult Board’s sub-groups alongside the other Named Professionals and engage with multi-agency audits and case reviews. You will be required to complete chronologies and internal management reviews with assistance.

You will work with the team to deliver clinical studies investigating the 18kDa Translocator Protein (TSPO) as a drug target for cerebral small vessel disease, the most common cause of vascular dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. The research aims to address an immense unmet need in the management of vascular brain disease.

You will be based at the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility (CRF), a purpose-built unit at Hammersmith Hospital in West London. The facility is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London, a world-leading research-intensive university. The CRF specialises in academic and commercial early phase clinical studies in various disease areas and provides a well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work collaboratively.

The post will involve regular travel to the memory service at Charing Cross Hospital for the recruitment of participants. You will have a key role in the day-to-day running of the studies, including recruitment, participant-facing activities and data collection. You will work collaboratively with the research team and wider CRF team to coordinate and conduct participant visits and study-related activities, according to Good Clinical Practice.
• The aim of this job is to provide best care to volunteers and patients participating in clinical research studies in the Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF). The unit is a NHS research facility at Hammersmith Hospital in west London. It is located at the heart of one of the UK’s most research-intensive universities, Imperial College. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work together.

We are looking for a motivated, skilful and knowledgeable nurse who works well as part of a team. Knowledge of clinical research is necessary. Strong background of clinical skills (administration of intravenous drugs, phlebotomy and cannulation) is essential.

The unit specialises in commercial and academic early phase clinical studies in various disease areas including respiratory, renal, neurology, oncology and metabolic medicine as well as healthy volunteers’ trials. We host complex and challenging studies and we expect the post holder to adapt to the required flexibility of our portfolio.

Working with genetically modified organism medicines may be part of the activities you are involved in. You will always be provided with the required training and support to deliver the required care. The Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre opened at the Hammersmith Hospital in November 2005 and has become the largest facility of its kind in Europe, offering a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services to our patient group.There are 4 inpatient wards which includes an HDU providing Level 2 care and 3 Level 0/1 wards. There is also a programmed investigation unit offering a ward attender/day case service of 18 beds.

De Wardener is the renal HDU a hybrid ward and specialises in the care of renal patients who require intensive monitoring for highly complex needs. This includes patients who have had a kidney or a kidney and pancreas transplant and patients who require non-invasive ventilatory support such as CPAP, BiPAP and High flow oxygen and/or tracheostomy care and inotropic support .There is also a ‘lines’ room on de Wardener where access for dialysis is inserted under imaging guidance. (Tunnelled central vascular catheters for haemodialysis and peritoneal catheters.)

As a Band 5 Nurse you will get to work with world renowned doctors, transplant surgeons and clinical nurse specialists.Should you develop a deeper interest in renal specific nursing whilst working on our acute wards you will have access to our renal course accredited by Bucks University at level 6 and 7 this provides a comprehensive training in all key areas of renal nursing.
