The role
As a Trainee Health Physics Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will be part of a team leading on delivering a radioactive waste management service for a large and complex Nuclear licensed site. This role will offer significant development opportunities to allow an individual to progress and develop whilst in role. This is a trainee management position with development to progress within the function to a Health Physics Manager.
Day-to-day, you'll provide direction and support to managers, employees, contractors and others, managing radioactive waste disposal tasks in accordance with current legislation and company policy.
- Ensure the waste hierarchy is applied though the provision of advice on appropriate disposal routes and methodology.
- Coordinate the storage, processing and ultimate disposal of radioactive waste.
- Manage the consignment of radioactive material off site to external treatment/disposal facilities..
- Provide practical radiological protection guidance to ensure work packages are undertaken in a safe manner.
- Assess and produce local procedures relating to waste management tasks and radiological monitoring protocols.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home.
Essential experience of the Trainee Health Physics Manager
- Experienced in Health Physics or other acceptable relevant experience
- Relevant knowledge and experience of radioactive waste management processes and techniques
- Relevant experience with Radioactive Material Accounting Officer roles and responsibilities.
- Relevant experience of handling radioactive material
- Proficient use in Microsoft office software
Qualifications for the Trainee Health Physics Manager
- NVQ Level 2 Diploma in relevant scientific or engineering subject or suitable equivalent
- Member/Tech/Associated member of Society of Radiological Protection or equivalent (or working towards).
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
