University Hospital Southampton
Full time – 37.5 hours per week. Working 5 over 7 shift basis (no split shifts)
Salary: £22,739.75 plus Serco benefits.
Main Purpose:
We have an exciting opportunity for a chef to join our Retail and Catering Team here at Serco
- University Hospitals Southampton. Retail Catering have three outlets across the hospital site – The Feast Restaurant, Paddy & Scotts Café and the Café at the Princess Anne Hospital. We also provide hospitality and vending options across the site.A role offering a good work life balance, you will be working alongside our Head Chef, and established team. 80% of our menus are cooked with fresh ingredients and the Chef role is pivotal in supporting the team in the creation of menus, selecting ingredients, and developing new dishes for our customers. When looking at our menus we consider factors such as taste, presentation, dietary restrictions, and seasonal availability to design a well-rounded menu.
Main Accountabilities:
Food Preparation and Cooking:
- Skilled in various cooking techniques and are responsible for preparing and cooking food to the highest standards.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that all dishes meet the established standards of taste, presentation, and quality. Monitor the cooking process, taste and adjust seasoning, and inspect the final dishes before they are served.
Inventory Management:
- Assisting the head chef and team in managing inventory and ensuring an adequate supply of ingredients. This includes monitoring stock levels, ordering ingredients, and maintaining proper storage and rotation of perishable items.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Assist the head chef and team in enforcing strict hygiene and safety standards in the kitchen. Ensuring proper food handling, sanitation, and adherence to health regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Effective communication and collaboration with Head chef, kitchen staff, Hostess are essential. To be able to have a personable approach and engage with patients.
What you will need for the role:
- Previous experience of working in a similar hotel / restaurant environment would be advantageous for this role, however not essential as full training will be given. Patterns of work vary across 7 days straight shifts.
- NVQ level 2 or higher preferred.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Hold relevant certificates or be willing to undertake specialist training in specific areas.
- Knowledge & Experience in similar establishment.
- Professional self-starter able to work unaided.
- Highly organised and capable of working in a busy, fast-paced environment.
