We are seeking an experienced, efficient, competent, and self- motivated team player to join our Scheduling team.

The theatre scheduler will play a pivotal role in ensuring patients are scheduled for their surgical procedures.

The post holder will need to have good general knowledge and skills in a hospital setting as this is busy and varied role.

The post is fixed term for 12 months and is full time, 37.5 hours per week.

COVID Vaccine is not essential for this role.

The post holder will be responsible for providing administrative support for consultants with their theatre lists, ensuring a smooth running of the service. The role includes arranging and sending patients for their preop checks, scheduling their procedure date, and liaising with the relevant departments to ensure all equipment, special requirements, bed requests and any corresponding appointments are booked.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• The post holder will ensure that the Surgeon, Anaesthetist, and staff are allocated to the correct theatre lists.
• Input patient details into Theatreman once identified by the consultant from priority list of patients.
• Input all required information from the surgical booking form on CWP
• All aspects of patient access relating to the patients planned procedure including contacting the patient.
• Manage the timing of the procedure due to PPE process etc.
• Ensure coding is correct for the specialised procedures.
• Manage the surgical booking form ensuring it is updated in relation to the status.
• Cross cover with the Anaesthetic and Theatres schedulers to ensure there is no single point of failure.
• Pull all required data when requested e.g., utilisation, procedure numbers etc.
• To be responsible for administration services provided within their area of responsibility.
• Attend and actively participate in diary meetings.
• To further develop appropriate systems, policies, procedures, and management arrangements for delivering effective waiting list management.
• Understand the 62 day and patient access targets and be able to advise others on waiting list management issues, including The Christie Private Clinic.
• Review and analyse theatre data to track patients and take proactive action to support patient access targets.
• To develop and implement measures to ensure that services are cost effective and undertake regular benchmarking and auditing of processes.
• To ensure full compliance with all Trust Governance Standards including the assessment and management of identified risks.

Medicines Optimisation (Homecare Services)


• Act as a deputy to the Principal Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist.
• Manage all pharmacy related aspects of the homecare services with support from the Principal Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist.
• Maintain, monitor, and update the trust’s homecare strategy in line with national standards.
• Develop and monitor homecare performance indicators to ensure that compliance with these indicators is maintained and action plans for improvement agreed as necessary.
• Contribute nationally to the development of homecare medicines optimisation guidance and policy and attend the National Medicines Homecare Committee and Regional homecare procurement meetings as appropriate.
• Ensure that all homecare procurement activity meets the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions and European procurement legislation.
• Identify areas for audit which contribute to improving patient care, safety and experience in relation to homecare medicines use and provision.
• Lead the development and review of homecare scheme SLAs, protocols, treatment guidelines, service specifications, prescription forms and patient information both within the clinical pharmacy service and Christie@Home team and other external providers.
• Manage services for the homecare specialist area through liaison with external providers.

• To be responsible for and co-ordinate the development, implementation and management of training initiatives and competency frameworks within the homecare pharmacy service and assist in the delivery of training to all members of the pharmacy and homecare team as required.
• Manage all outsourced homecare related incidents in conjunction with the homecare providers and the third party dispensary.
• Manage medicine related incidents occurring within the Christie@Home service including those relating to the third party courier.
• To attend and contribute to meetings relevant to the disease group regarding new homecare initiatives as appropriate and represent the pharmacy service at appropriate clinical unit and divisional meetings on request.
• To develop and implement procedures for clinical screening of homecare prescriptions including document approval and control.

• To support with the Optimisation of the Trust electronic healthcare record system for areas relating to Homecare.



To support the principal pharmacist Medicines Optimisation to:


• Develop initiatives to provide care closer to home, including Outreach and Homecare services, by working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders (managers for SACT and Outreach Services, clinical teams, homecare providers, finance commissioners, patient groups).
• Develop and implement projects which will support redesign of the services provided where necessary.
• Tender for homecare services in line with National and European standards.



Medicines Optimisation (Medicines Value)


• To support the Principal Pharmacist Medicines Optimisation in the Trust Medicines Value Improvement Programme (VIP) through the identification, prediction, assessment and reporting of savings as a result of medicines procurement and supply chain activities.
• Support the pharmacy procurement team and relevant clinical/medicines optimisation colleagues to ensure appropriate clinical and commissioning input into medicines procurement decisions including the management of medicines shortages for use in hospital, outpatient or homecare setting as appropriate.
• To support with the implementation of national and regional procurement guidance to support the management of drug shortages and maximise savings for the NHS.
• To conduct risk assessments related to procured medicines in conjunction with relevant clinical colleagues.
• To provide clinical input into the medicine’s shortage information compiled and circulated to the wider pharmacy team and clinical colleagues.
• To support the senior pharmacy team in relation to the managed entry of new medicines into the Trust in line with National and Local commissioner guidance and associated Drug &Therapeutics Committee (DTC) implementation considerations.
• To work with the procurement team to ensure that appropriate actions are taken following new drug approval decisions made by DTC.

• To support the production, co-ordination and management of the horizon scanning information for new medicines, liaising with senior clinical pharmacists and clinicians.
• Use of expert clinical and commissioning knowledge to identify appropriate routes of approval for individual patients.
• To support the provision of reports to DTC regarding medicines value (e.g., biosimilar uptake and PAS schemes uptake) and compliance with NICE TA and Commissioning statements.
• To develop, validate and monitor reporting for the effective management of medicines usage and financial budgets.



Clinical duties


• To practise as an Independent Prescriber and prescribe to appropriate patients in agreement with relevant consultants.
• To support prescribing at the individual patient level, contributing to the optimisation of patients’ drug therapy with due consideration to risk/benefit issues.
• To deliver a clinical pharmacy service to designated patient groups, promoting best practice for all areas of pharmaceutical care in accordance with all local, Trust and national guidelines.
• To use specialist knowledge to identify and resolve complex pharmaceutical issues, taking into consideration other co-morbidity factors associated with the patient and liaise with medical and nursing staff.

A Vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


Applications are invited for this replacement post, in Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust. This post will be based at Leigh Infirmary and will include participation in a 1 in 12 on call rota shared with a neighbouring trust. The successful applicant will join five other Consultants, 4 middle Grades (including 2 SpRs) and 6 WTE specialist nurses. The post-holder will help the department continue to achieve a consultant delivered service and to meet all the separate elements of the government targets.



Applicants should have comprehensive experience and training in Urology. They must also be on the Specialist Register or expect to achieve their CCT within 6 months of the interview date. They should be competent in all aspects of core urology. The new appointee should be able to willing and able to develop an interest to complement the needs of the department.

The urology department has an integrated urology unit at Leigh infirmary for all urological out patient investigations and the majority of clinics, including those undertaken by clinical nurse specialists. It includes out-patient clinic space, 3 treatment / procedure rooms, (each with dedicated patient changing) and accommodation for consultant offices and all the departmental administrative support.

The post will involve planned sessional work at Leigh Infirmary, Thomas Linacre outpatients centre and Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan.

On call cover is shared with the neighbouring Royal Bolton Hospital with each trust providing emergency urology care for both boroughs on an alternate week basis. Hence some emergency and out of hours work will need to be undertaken at Bolton, In future further collaboration is expected with colleagues across both trusts.

• The appointee will be based at Leigh Infirmary but will be required to provide a comprehensive urology service to support the Trust’s urological workload wherever it is located. The appointee will be responsible for:
• Providing specialist advice for patients for the prevention and diagnosis of illness referred to them.

Work Circumstances and on-call

• Named PA / secretarial support will be provided.
• The appointee will have the assistance of a comprehensive, dedicated secretarial service, in shared office accommodation within the Richmond urology unit, and consultant office space for personal use. Electronic dictation and IT structure allows uploading of urgent dictated correspondence from any trust site.
• Some sessions will be at Leigh Infirmary, RAE Infirmary, Wigan and Thomas Linacre Centre. Travel between sites is usually kept to a minimum and travel time where necessary is included in PA calculations of the job plan.
• The appointee will participate in the urology on call rota which is currently a 1 in 12 (out of hours).
• The on call is shared with a neighbouring trust (Royal Bolton Hospital) with each trust providing emergency urology care to patients across both boroughs on an alternate week basis. As such some emergency work may need to be undertaken at Royal Bolton Hopsital.
• In the future we aim to forge closer working relationships which could see some non emergency sessions moving between trusts.
• The successful candidate will be required to live within a reasonable distance of RAEI to be able to meet emergency on-call requirements as they will be on call from home.
• It is the expectation that on both Saturday and Sundays all urology in patients, including those admitted over the previous 24 hours, will be reviewed by the on call consultant. This is in keeping with RCS and trust guidance. With shared weekend on call cover this currently involves ward rounds at both Wigan infirmary and Royal Bolton Hospital.
• Appraisal will be carried out with an appointed appraiser as outlined in the consultant contract on a yearly basis

The job plan for the post (draft attached and subject to negotiation and mutual agreement) prepared in accordance with paragraphs 30a, 30b and 61 under the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff will be agreed with the consultant after appointment. The session locations, times and duties of the post may be modified over time to effect change in service needs. Clinical Governance

There is a structured programme for development of clinical governance within the Trust. There is a governance sub-committee, which is a sub-committee of the Trust Board chaired by the Medical Director. Within each directorate the clinical director carries responsibility for the development of governance within the directorate. This is delivered through a Service Improvement Team, incorporating leads for audit, clinical effectiveness, clinical risk, research and development and the client’s experience. The chair of clinical audit and effectiveness co-ordinates the production of an annual audit cycle from the directorates, emphasising multi-disciplinary teams and team working. Upto 6 sessions per year at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust are devoted to audit when all clinical services are suspended. An exciting opportunity has arisen in Blood Sciences within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL). We are a new organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Set up as an arms-length organisation, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, we have our own board and governance framework, with each of the three trusts having an equal voice and vote in the running of the Pathology Partnership. One of the largest pathology providers in the NHS, the Pathology Partnership brings together the strengths of teams from each of the three trusts into a single organisation, dedicated to the provision of high quality and cost-effective pathology services.



A comprehensive transformation initiative is underway to forge a single, integrated pathology network spanning seven hospital laboratories. The envisioned 'hub and spoke' operational model revolves around The Royal London Hospital (RLH), a major trauma centre housing the London Air Ambulance, and linked to vital service laboratories supporting various clinical specialties across our affiliated hospital sites.

The expansive network of laboratories within the NHS presents an invaluable opportunity for acquiring extensive technical and leadership expertise. ESEL acknowledges the significance of career advancement and efficient succession planning.

We are in search of a proactive, dynamic team members to assume the role of Associate Practioner in Point of care testing.

The post holders must possess a thorough understanding of the technologies and methodologies pertinent to both core and Point of care testing. They will assume supervisory responsibilities in sections of the department proportionate with their proficiency, overseeing technical and scientific tasks.

Focused on supporting, maintaining, and enhancing Quality, Learning, and Health and Safety Management Systems within their designated area of work. The post holder must demonstrate effective leadership and management capabilities. To spearhead comprehensive quality enhancements and collaborate across the partnered laboratories.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership  is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.  The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.  

The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.  We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. The successful Band 4 candidate will be based at Homerton Hospital, but work flexibly across different teams and partnered laboratories.
