Provide accurate divisional financial information and advice to a range of budget-holders, enabling robust financial control and optimal decision making.

Do you want to be part of a team working in brand new, purpose-built theatres providing planned surgery for patients across Hertfordshire and west Essex?

We are looking NOW for talented staff to form the core team that will be the beating heart of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Surgical Centre being built at St Albans City Hospital and set to open in Spring 2025.

More than 4,000 patients will be seen at the hub each year for non-complex orthopaedic, hip and knee surgery as well as ear, nose and throat procedures and spinal injections. Being separated from emergency services will reduce the risk of short-notice cancellations. 

This is a fabulous opportunity to play a key role in a flagship collaborative project between the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board.

The Surgical Centre will focus on Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) standards and will be a highly efficient facility, achieving 85% theatre utilisation and operating sessions over an extended 10-hour day, four days a week, with shorter, 8-hour operating session taking place on Friday and Saturdays.

CLINICAL
To hold a caseload of both specialist and generic work dependant on clinical competence and experience. To undertake assessments, treatment and consultation work based upon a conceptual framework and employing research based evidence.

COMMUNICATION

2.2. Attend Child Protection Case conferences as a representative from children and young people’s mental health services.
2.3. Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information to children, young people and families and to other professionals with in young people’s services.
2.4. Communicate effectively with children, young people and their carers, when in crisis and in challenging family situations
2.5. Organise and facilitate multi-agency meetings and reviews

KEY DUTIES

The proposed timetable will contain six DCC sessions, including two sessions (1 day) of anaesthetic provision within the maternity unit.

At the Conquest Hospital there is a consultant-led maternity unit where doctors, including anaesthetists, are available 24 hours a day. Anaesthetists provide epidural analgesia, and support assisted and emergency births. There is a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The Buchanan delivery suite has ten rooms, one main operating theatre and two recovery beds. There is also midwifery-led unit at Eastbourne District General Hospital. There were nearly 4000 births in 2023, of which 400 were elective caesarian sections and 600 carried out as an emergency. The anaesthetics department provides a consultant-led high risk obstetrics clinic once a week.

The Anaesthetic department covers two acute hospitals Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital and the successful will be expected to work cross site.

Job plan and duties

The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA (supporting professional activities). The 10.75 PA (programmed activities) job plan will incorporate 1.5PAs of SPA (1 timetabled SPA session per week, and 0.5PA additional SPA).
