We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join our expanding team of physicists and technologists. You will work across our hospital sites including Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals and occasional visits to our Clacton Community Diagnostic Centre, community hospitals and other organisations where contractual arrangements exist.

You will participate in providing radiation protection services to Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT and Radiopharmacy.

You will deliver a wide range of activities aiming to promote the safety of patients, the public and staff in all areas where ionising and non-ionising radiation are used. These include:
• Scientific and technical advice and supporting the Trust in all aspects of radiation safety and some imaging physics, including radiology equipment quality assurance and optimisation
• Radiation Protection Adviser & Radioactive Waste Adviser services, including auditing, radioactive waste management and contingency planning
• Medical Physics Expert support for Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, including patient dose auditing and optimisation
• Scientific and technical support for non-ionising radiation including UV and ultrasound for clinical applications

• Participate in the development and implementation of the Quality Assurance programme for diagnostic radiography and non-ionising radiation equipment to ensure equipment is fit for purpose, in accordance with national guidelines and professionally recognised best practice.
• Keep abreast of the latest technical and scientific developments and new practices relating to Radiation Safety, Imaging Physics and associated fields.
• Assist in the development of new QA techniques.
• Assist in the commissioning and acceptance of new radiographic equipment.
• Through audit visits, audit reports and direct liaison at meetings and in person:• Assist the Medical Physics Experts (MPEs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IR(ME)R 2017.
• Assist the Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IRR17, for example the production of radiation safety and shielding advice for facilities
• Assist the Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with EPR 2016 and other relevant regulations.
• Work towards qualified expert status as an MPE / RPA / RWA / LPA as agreed with the head of service.
• Assist with the acceptance and consistency testing, as well as the calibration of radiation monitoring equipment.
• Collaborate in the routine review and development of departmental and wider policies and procedures.
• Provide training and supervision to junior members of staff and trainees working in Radiation Safety & Imaging Physics.

The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) is looking to appoint a Radiotherapy Service Manager and Professional Lead Therapeutic Radiographer based in Newcastle.

We are looking for a well-motivated, experienced person to lead the delivery of radiotherapy services within our Cancer Centres in Newcastle and Carlisle (Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria).

This management position within NCCC/NCCCNC involves the full range of management accountabilities including day-to-day operational management of the radiotherapy department in both Newcastle and North Cumbria.

This post is responsible for teams across both departments incorporating approximately 100 members of staff, predominantly radiographers.

We have 9 Varian TrueBeams, 2 Tomotherapy units, 3 CT Scanners, 1 SXT unit and 1 HDR brachytherapy unit across our two sites, delivering treatment to approximately 6000 new patients per year employing a wide range of therapies including multi-met SRS, lungs SABR, HDR gynae brachytherapy, TBI/TSEI, gated lung therapy and cardiac SABR.

This is an exciting role for a motivated individual keen to drive improvement and join a very supportive and collaborative team.

The post holder takes day-to-day responsibility for delivery of the radiotherapy department’s key performance indicators as laid out in the NHS England’s service specification. This includes achieving the national cancer waiting time targets including the 62 and 31-day waits.

NCCC provides a highly specialized regional radiotherapy service to a population of circa 3.3million across the North East and North Cumbria with radiotherapy service provision for circa 2.0million.

This senior management position within NCCC/NCCC-NC involves the full range of management accountabilities for the delivery of radiotherapy services, including day-to-day operational management of the departments in both Newcastle and North Cumbria. A key objective for the post holder is to ensure equity of service delivery across the geographically spread treatment locations. This requires the post holder to ensure effective agreement exists between the departments in delivery of both strategic and operational objectives in order to deliver integrated care pathways.

The role provides radiotherapy professional leadership to the Radiotherapy Operational Delivery Network (ODN) responsible for providing radiotherapy system leadership and the delivery of NHS England’s vision and ambitions for the modernisation of radiotherapy services

The annual budgetary management responsibilities for this role include £4.6million for staff resources, and operational management and leadership of in excess of 100 staff membersAs part of the senior management team of the Cancer and Haematology Clinical Board, the post holder will work collaboratively to propose and implement changes to radiotherapy service delivery across the two radiotherapy units.

• Professional Lead Therapeutic Radiographer
• To lead and be responsible for the delivery of radiotherapy services and implementation of radiotherapy pathways ensuring a cohesive, effective and seamless service is provided to service users across NCCC and NCCC-NC
• To be responsible for the safe and efficient use of multiple modalities, cutting edge Radiotherapy equipment, (over both sites) in the development and delivery of novel radiotherapy planning and treatment delivery techniques, and in the undertaking of research and development within the radiotherapy service
• To provide professional leadership and strategic development of Consultant Radiographers and Advanced Radiotherapy Practitioners working within appropriate expert fields of Radiotherapy practice

• This role will work closely in conjunction with Radiotherapy Physics and Medical Staff for delivery of radiotherapy service
• To provide line management support to the Operational Delivery Network Manager working towards achieving the objectives of the Radiotherapy Service Specification.
• To provide strategic leadership to the Northern Radiotherapy Network as a core member of the Network Oversight Group, covering area of responsibility
