The successful applicant will work as part of the library team assisting in the general administration of the library and care of its resources including the cataloguing of library resources, running the circulation desk, and creating a welcoming and well-ordered environment. They will encourage students’ curiosity and independence when using the library space.
Requirements:
- Minimum Diploma holder or equivalent (advantageous to have skills and qualification in Library & Information Studies)
- Good organisational, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Proficiency in library related technologies (software and hardware) and Microsoft Office Applications
- Good research skills or an interest in design & technology in a library setting will be an added advantage
- Experience working with students aged 11 – 18 in an international school context would be an added advantage
- Able to work independently as well as a good team player with good initiative
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide and manage information, resources and services that satisfy the varied needs of our users
· Be familiar with the automated library resources management system and use the different modules confidently, including circulation, cataloguing and stock taking.
· Support the Head of Library to provide quality customer and information services for patrons in both the library’s online and off-line environment.
· Work any work shifts allocated in the Senior Library, including a twice-monthly late shift, as circumstances require.
2. Create a safe, stimulating and aesthetically pleasing environment for our community
· Maintain the physical environment throughout the day and help create an atmosphere conducive to the effective use of the library.
· Collaborate with other Library team members to offer activities/special events and help maintain the library’s display areas and online presence.
· Build a positive rapport with students; treat them with care, understanding and respect; support their learning.
· Be proactive in managing student behaviour in compliance with the school’s code of conduct.
· Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
3. Promote a reading culture and provide opportunities for users to engage in literature enrichment activities
· Support and promote a reading culture in the library by becoming familiar with resources and participating in author visits.
4. Collaborate with teachers in designing strategies that develop information literacy skills
· Develop own skills in information literacy and help those in the Tanglin community conform to school referencing standards.
· Work with individuals or small groups to enhance their information literacy skills.
5. Maintain a perspective of the whole school within the international community.
· Maintain the school’s standards regarding professional dress and behaviour.
· Work with the Head of Library to become involved in whole school activities.
· Develop an awareness of the library programme and the curriculum it supports.
· Understand the need to support students, teachers and parents as patrons of the library.
6. Embrace the Learner Profile for students, staff and the Tanglin community
· Collaborate with members of the Library team to ensure a smooth co-ordination of tasks.
· On an annual basis complete the Review and Development exercise and undertake identified development opportunities.
· Adopt a lifelong learning approach, participate in Professional Development opportunities and share expertise.
· Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
7. Technology
· Operate and maintain library technologies including websites, social media and curation tools, as well as design and technology related tools from the library’s makerspace.
· Participate in continuing professional development to remain current with library related technologies.
