An exciting secondment/ fixed term opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Continence Advisor to join the Bowel and Bladder Paediatric team.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic self-motived individual who is keen to develop and learn the skills needed to join this specialist team.
The successful candidate will be provided with the training and support required to enable them to deliver a high quality service to the CYP and their families/carers who access our services.
To work within the children’s Bladder and Bowels Service under the direction of the Children’s Bladder and Bowel nurses, assisting them in promoting the development of children on their caseloads. This includes participating in the planning, assessment and implementation of programmes of care to meet the specific needs of identified children and their families. The post will include cross site working and clinic based.
Full training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

1. To work with the children’s bladder and bowel service in undertaking continence assessments and instigation of continence promotion programmes in partnership with parents/carers and assesses the effectiveness of programmes under the supervision of the children’s bladder and bowel nurses.
1. Advises and supports families to promote the continence of children as appropriate based on the assessment made, in partnership with the children’s bladder and bowel nurses.
1. Orders appropriate continence products in line with Trust policy.
1. Develops links with and liaises with relevant local children’s services
1. Teaching and education to health professionals on toilet training programmes, education authorities and other professional groups as required.
1. To ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children and their families, carers and visitors when they are visiting clinics. Provide assistance, where appropriate, to the children’s bladder and bowel nurses when they are undertaking clinics.
1. Provide information to parents/carers regarding relevant resources and services that they require in order that the child may reach their full continence potential.
1. Record work undertaken with patients, families’ carers and professionals on appropriate service documentation and trust I.T systems.
1. Demonstrates Knowledge of Children's development relating to toileting skills in particular
1. Demonstrates knowledge of child development with children with special needs.
1. Act as a resource for information to parent’s, carers, and professionals throughout the multi-disciplinary team.
1. To participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues.
1. To have knowledge of a range of communication methods for children who may have barriers to understanding e.g. children with special learning/understanding needs and young children whocannot yet easily communicate.
