This role will be to support a dynamic and innovative group of Obstetricians at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton with a specific interest in Fetal and Maternal medicine .

The job description details the expected working arrangements which include clinical commitments, 1.5 SPA's in support of the consultant position, and a further 1.0 PA which can be developed by agreement into a special interest area with clinical or managerial responsibility. The post will provide specialist opinion and management within the areas of Fetal Medicine (dedicated whole-day scan list weekly) and Maternal Medicine and will work in conjunction with our developed specialist service teams.Last year the FMU saw more than 850 new referrals from a population that has a high incidence of fetal congenital & chromosomal abnormalities and familial/metabolic genetic disease as well as fetal growth restriction and other obstetric complications.

This post joins a dedicated Fetal Medicine team comprising 1 other subspecialist consultant in fetal medicine, 4 fetal medicine special interest consultants, 52 fetal medicine midwives, 3 screening midwives, a Fetal Medicine Support Worker and secretarial support. The FMU uses a dedicated GE Voluson E8 /10 machines (with a full range of 3/4D volume acquisition, STIC, TUI, and other scanning modalities) and a Viewpoint FM database for reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and develop their research output and to represent the FMU and Trust at national and international meetings. In addition, they will be mentored and supported to increase their clinical and organisational expertise and experience.

The unit has well-established links to allied regional services, such as clinical genetics, paediatric cardiology, and paediatric surgery, and has an excellent record in managing all our FM cases, including delivery.

There is a local FM/Perinatal MDT meeting with neonatal colleagues and a fortnightly high-risk surgical and placenta accreta spectrum Obstetric MDT meeting with allied medical specialties including Obstetric Anaesthesia, Gynaecology Oncology, and Interventional Radiology, as well as ad hoc regional diagnostic MDT meeting to support the regional PAS service. In addition, there is the expectation to be involved in region-wide MDTs and meetings following the creation of formal Midlands-wide Fetal Medicine and Maternal Medicine networks.

There is a dedicated 1:14 Service week 9 am -5 pm. There is a 1:14 on-call with 5 5-hour resident sessions covering the Delivery suite/ Maternity unit on weekdays and evenings, with an allied 14-hour non-resident on-call overnight. 1:14 9 hours split weekends daytime resident and overnight on call are included. On the call cover is prospective. There are no resident night-time sessions. There are 17 dedicated obstetricians and 3 other consultants in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology who provide obstetric emergency, in-patient, and out-patient services along with a large team of junior and SAS staff.

We are a large and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy service of around 100 staff, working across all service areas in Derbyshire.

This exciting opportunity has arisen in the children's team and we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced speech and language therapist with specialist skills in paediatric dysphagia to work across the City and County team and in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Royal Derby Hospital.

The role would be combined with a Derby city community caseload providing a clinical service to children and young people with a range of communication difficulties in a variety of settings, including education settings, nurseries, clinics and clients’ homes .







All our therapists work with children who have a wide range of speech, language, communication and eating and drinking needs. The specialist area of interest for this post is in paediatric dysphagia. You will need to have post graduate experience of working with children under 12months and children over 12 months with eating and drinking needs.

You will be a HCPC registered and be mobile between locations.

They will be proficient in their abilities to deliver high-quality, evidence-based practice, with a proven ability to provide leadership and support within an SLT service.

You will work alongside a friendly team of SLTs, SLPs and SLTAs, with line management support from an SLT team leader, as well as having access to clinical supervision and relevant CPD opportunities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Haematologist , to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at UHDB. This is an 11-PA replacement post joining a team of 11 consultants overall.

In-patient therapies are provided on a dedicated, 18 bedded, haematology ward, providing BCSH level 2b care, including induction treatment and salvage therapies for high grade lymphomas. We have our own Acute Unit for unwell patients (CTAU) run by advanced clinical practitioners with medical supervision and shared with Oncology. Our department currently accommodates 4 specialist Registrars from the East Midlands Deanery and 3 specialty Doctors. We have also an established teaching program for medical students from the University of Nottingham and overseas.

Currently, there is liaison with the regional transplant centre in Nottingham for autologous stem cell transplant, and Birmingham QE Hospital for CAR-T therapy. Part of our 5-year plan is to establish our own autologous transplant and cellular therapies program. An interest or previous experience in transplant and cellular therapies would be desirable although not essential for this role. The apppointee will have the opportunity to shape the future of the growing haematology service. This is an exciting time in the evolution of haematology care at UHDB and we would be pleased to hear from any candidate wishing to consider this role and discuss ours and their vision for this.

The successful candidate will be part of a cohesive team involving head and neck surgeons (OMFS & ENT), orthodontists and allied health professionals. Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice at time of application is essential.

The fellow is expected to work closely with specialist trainees in OMFS & ENT and dental core trainees.

The fellow is also expected to provide second tier on-call cover.

As a Head and Neck fellow, he/she would be expected to attend Head and Neck clinics, work up patients and present at Head and Neck MDT and get involved with overall management of head and neck patients.

The Maxillo Facial Fellow will undertake general and specialist clinics. They will undertake minor surgery lists under local anaesthesia and assist consultants undertaking major head and neck, orthognathic and TMJ surgery.

This is an appointment to cover from Feb 2025- February 2026. Possession of the MBBS, GDC, plus full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of application is essential.

The elective work involves daily ward rounds, time-tabled sessions for day case, theatre and outpatient clinics. Whilst it is not a recognised training post, this post is well supervised and there are opportunities to learn and develop skills.

This post will participate in the OMF On-call rota.

Duties & responsibilities of the post:
• Provision of a comprehensive Neurology service to the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust in conjunction with your Consultant colleagues with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis & treatment of illness & the proper functioning of the department.


• Responsibility for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.


• Provision of cover for your Consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients and supervision of Neurology Specialty trainees, junior doctors & Specialist Nurses.


• Responsibility for the professional supervision, training & management of the Neurology Specialty trainees & junior medical staff carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & continuing medical education activity locally & nationally as appropriate.


• Participation in the clinical governance arrangements of the Trust & specifically within the Directorate including clinical audit & research.


• Responsibility for implementing the Infection Control Policies as determined by the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.


• Responsibility for compliance with personal continuing medical education requirements with the support of the Trust.


• Responsibility for maintaining awareness of professional guidelines such as ‘Duties of a Doctor’ & of the ‘GMC Performance Procedures’ & acting in accordance with them.


• An exceptional requirement to undertake additional duties for limited periods within the geographical area specified above or to undertake duties at other hospitals in the event of a major disaster or incident.

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.


This is a full time substantive appointment for UHDB NHS Foundation Trust based at Derbyshire Children’s Hospital at the Royal Derby Hospital, although other services are provided across all the Trust sites including the Queens Hospital Burton site and peripheral clinics at Ilkeston, Lichfield and Tamworth. It is not anticipated that this post will require any cross site working.

We are looking for a Paediatric Emergency trained doctor to join our flexible team and compliment the range of services provided. The appointee should have PEM grid training, or have paediatric subspecialty training via RCEM route, or be able to demonstrate equivalent training.

Provision of a comprehensive Paediatric Urgent and Emergency Care service to UHDB NHS Foundation Trust and the surrounding areas, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.

Responsibility for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of your staff.

Provision of a resident consultant senior medical cover running the children’s emergency department with consultant presence between 08.30 and 23.00 7 days per week (Winter hours are until 24.00 with a compensatory later start time)

Children’s Emergency Department:

This is a purpose built department opened May 2009 that sees over 45,000 attendances per year. It won the CHKS award in 20015 for the UK’s best emergency department and the co-located Observation unit has been used as a practice example by the RCPCH when rewriting the standards for SSPAU’s. Most recently the Emergency department won the RCEM award 2017 for the Best Emergency Department team. We are an accredited Grid training site for Paediatric Emergency Medicine and are a founder member of the PERUKI clinical research network. We are active in this network and are currently participating in 3 trials.

We function as a single front door for all GP, 999 and self-referrals, and operate as a one stop shop. Clinicians in CED have admitting rights to the general paediatric ward. There is no separate children’s admissions unit. Our observation unit has 4 beds and one cubicle and allows us to observe certain patients for up to 8 hours. We also run an ambulatory care service from this unit.
