Job Details

• Investigating, managing and reporting on a varied range of surveyed claims
  
• Liaising with customers, determining policy cover and legal liability investigations, establishing the loss value and any associated costs
  
• Handling and desktop settling a full and varied range of incidents
  
• Ensuring all claims are managed properly, fairly and with integrity, producing reporting which demonstrates this
  
• Maintaining high standards of communication with internal stakeholders and providing information on significant claims trends
  
• Participating in the policy wording and claim handling enhancement working group and contributing to the claims auditing process

To comprehensively assess patients, gaining information about their physical health, mental health, social issues as well as their alcohol history to format a plan of care based on the patients individual needs.

With the support & guidance of senior nurses, advise & support emergency department staff on admission criteria for patients with alcohol issues attending the department.

To liaise with & build strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals both within the hospital & external agencies, to meet the needs of the patient.

To screen patients to identify those at risk from alcohol related health and social problems (hazardous drinkers) & those whose health is being damaged by alcohol (harmful drinkers) & undertake appropriate interventions or referrals.

To undertake individual case management to provide immediate & on-going support to those patients who are unsuitable or unwilling to engage in community services.

To attend multidisciplinary meetings to discuss referrals, frequent attenders or patients in treatment.

To make accurate assessments of the risk patients pose to themselves and others & take necessary action within Trust safeguarding guidelines.

To educate patients & their families on alcohol related harms & deliver brief advice.

To provide training to Trust staff on screening and brief interventions, and to participate in the development and delivery of education programmes.

The band 5 Alcohol Care Team Nurse will be an integral member of the Alcohol Care Team which provides care and treatment for patients with alcohol misuse issues. This nurse will assess patients who misuse alcohol and advise Trust staff on the care and management of acute alcohol related issues and care plans. They will participate in the development and delivery of education programmes for Trust staff in the speciality of alcohol misuse. The band 5 nurse will be responsible for supporting a caseload of individual patients who are not engaging in the community which results in hospital admission and frequently attend Trust services. The band 5 alcohol care team nurse will be willing to be flexible to meet the needs of this new team and must demonstrate knowledge, expertise and passion in working within the speciality of alcohol misuse. What skills and experience we're looking for

The Board of Trustees holds the CEO, executive team and academy leaders to account to successfully deliver against the Trust’s mission and strategic plan. They ensure an excellent education and level of safeguarding for students across the academies, a clear strategic direction, and the setting and monitoring of performance benchmarks. Trustees also have overall responsibility for ensuring that Shaw Education Trust complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, that resources are managed prudently, and that governance is of the highest possible standard.

Trustees actively participate in Board discussions, providing robust challenge in a constructive manner, and work well with other Board members and the leadership team. They understand the strategic nature of the Board’s role and how this differs from the role of executive leaders.

It is likely that candidates will have had some senior experience as either executive or non- executive in a large organisation, although first time Non-Executives / Trustees are welcome to apply. The Trust operates in a highly regulated environment in which good governance is paramount, and candidates should demonstrate a willingness to spend the requisite amount of time understanding these requirements.

All candidates should show integrity, honesty and compassion, and be great team players who can contribute to the Board but excel individually. They should demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm and passion for the mission and values of Shaw Education Trust, and the importance of providing an outstanding education to all students, no matter their background, ability, or starting point. Candidates may be based anywhere in the UK; although an affinity or familiarity with the locations in which the Trust operates would be an advantage but is not essential. It will however be necessary to attend meetings face to face, on three or four occasions annually.

Terms of the Appointment:

These roles are unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. There are 6 Board meetings held in person in the Midlands or Northwest and each member of the Board will to be a member of at least one sub-committee, (these meetings are currently held remotely). The total time commitment is expected to be approximately 8-10 days per year.

There will be additional induction and training commitments in the first year of term. The appointment is for an initial four-year term, which can be renewed at the discretion of the Board.

Finance and Audit Committee meetings take place remotely the week before the Board meetings. Although there are nominated members of the finance and audit committees, everybody is invited to attend.

Education and Standards committee meetings take place just before Board meetings and all Trustees attend.

This is an exciting time to join the MSE group, MSE is formed of 3 hospitals under one Trust board. Basildon Hospital, Broomfield Hospital and Southend Hospital.

We are looking for a Locum Consultant within Vascular for a six-month period. The role would include undertaking outpatient clinics in Southend Hospital and theatre lists and participate in on call cover at Basildon Hospital.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive team where Multi-Disciplinary Team work is envisaged as a key component the way this Trust works and will involve Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.

You will work in line with your colleagues, with the expectation to work in conjunction with other consultants from the Vascular Surgery Department. The workload will be based across two sites Basildon and Southend, involving in the ward rounds, reviewing emergency, post elective and inpatient referrals, additionally you will have outpatient clinics and theatre sessions. During completing your duties you will continue to promote a friendly working environment, keeping teamwork and training at the forefront of what we do. Teaching Primary and Junior Medical staff on a case by case basis, but also undertaking more formal teaching activities.

On call duties are in a 1:9 rotation that includes a mixture of both days and nights.

Applications are invited for a Speciality Doctor in Microbiology at University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Trust (UHDB) to join the current team of Microbiologists. This is post will support the expansion of the current infection service including both the Derby and Burton sites.
The post attracts 11.5 programmed activities (10 PAs Monday to Friday and 1.5PAs for weekends/on call), with the post holder being expected to work flexibly across the Acute Trusts hospital sites (Derby and Burton) as a merged organisation.


You would join a multi-disciplinary department aiming to deliver a clinically orientated, forward thinking infection service across UHDB.

There are currently microbiology laboratories on both the Royal Derby and Queens Hospital Burton sites, providing comprehensive diagnostic microbiology services to University Hospitals of Derby and Burton acute Trusts, Derbyshire and Staffordshire general practices and local private healthcare providers. The role will encompass but is not limited to clinical reporting, participation in MDTs, antimicrobial stewardship, clinical consults, infection prevention and control and ward rounds. Candidates will be encouraged to develop areas of special interest.

The post holder will be expected to participate with the current medical staff in the provision of an infection consultation service, infection rounds on specialist units, the interpretation of laboratory reports and the infection service.

Team deliver leadership for
• Antimicrobial stewardship
• Infection control
• Community infection control

Main Clinical Activities
• Liaison and ward/department visits to discuss individual clinical cases and infection prevention and control issues within the hospital
• Ward visits especially to ICU, renal, haematology and NICU/SCBU.
• Advice regarding diagnostic tests, antibiotic usage, interpretation of results, general patient management to GPs – usually telephone advice on individual patients.
• Validation of and interpretation of laboratory test results.
• Ward rounds and patient discussion groups
• Antibiotic stewardship rounds
• Attend clinical antibiotic guideline group and antibiotic sub group.

Infection Prevention Duties
• Attendance at Trust Infection Control Committee (ICC) /Infection Control Operational Group(ICOG)
• Decontamination Operational Group(DOG) and outbreak/SUI meetings/ HCAI RCA meetings as per rota
• Weekly difficile review group/MDT and MSSA review group
• Advise and support the IPCNs in day-to-day activities.
• Water management meeting and addressing/managing issues with legionella and pseudomonas

Educational and other activities
• This includes participation in the preparation and writing policies and SOPs; collecting and analysing audit and surveillance data; responses to various documents; writing educational PowerPoint presentations; checking minutes of meetings.
• Involvement in quality assurance performance within the department, including taking part in all relevant national external quality assurance (NEQAS) programmes.
• Involvement in achieving and maintaining full accreditation with UKAS, or an equivalent agency.
• Teaching and training a wide range of health care workers

Job Plan

A job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Assistant Clinical Director, on behalf of the Executive Medical Director. The job plan for the first 3 months is on average 10 programmed activities per week.

Job plan rotates over 4 week cycle

Week 1 - On call microbiologist Monday to Friday, this can be worked off site

Week 2 – Duty microbiologist, clinical and laboratory liaison, community/ hospital

Week 3 - Renal, neonatal, ITU ward round, teaching, MDT, antibiotic ward round /review of antibiotic audit, Week end on call Friday to Monday

Week 4 – Infection control duties + attending IC meetings, update IC policy, MDT, HACI RCA meeting, audit, DCHS meetings & policy review
