An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and influential professional leader to join our organisation as Deputy Chief Nurse. Applications are welcome from appropriately experienced registered nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals.
The Deputy Chief Nurse will support the Chief Nurse by providing strategic and operational leadership and direction and will deputise across the full range of their portfolio. The post holder will need proven leadership skills, experience at a strategic level, and the ability to motivate and engage others as part of a multi-professional team using sound management and leadership skills.
The Deputy Chief Nurse will have the freedom to act and make decisions on behalf of the Chief Nurse and needs to have a proven track record of considering various factors such as safety, quality, and regulatory issues and use their judgment to make informed decisions where there may be several complicated aspects to consider and no obvious solution. The post holder will also be required to work across the Divisions and in partnership with operational and clinical leaders to create and drive opportunities for continuous improvement.

The post holder will work with Divisional Chief Nurses/Midwives and Allied Health Professionals to meet regulatory requirements and to promote the highest standards of nursing, midwifery, and AHP care and professional behaviours.
This role also involves supporting the Chief Nurse in developing and delivering the Strategies for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals. This includes the development of leadership potential and capacity to drive and deliver consistent improvement in quality and safety, ensuring the Trust continues to provide outstanding care to patients and their families.
The post holder will be required to participate in the Director 'on-call' rota, promptly responding to service needs out of hours.
This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring Chief Nurses to strengthen and consolidate their experience in preparation for their first executive director role. Bespoke aspects of the Deputy Chief Nurse portfolio will be agreed upon with the Chief Nurse and other Senior Colleagues based on the post holders' skills, experience, and development needs.

Professional Leadership
• Provide professional leadership to all nursing, midwifery and AHP staff, fostering a culture which values continuing professional development and strives for outstanding care.
• Support safe and compassionate care by acting as a visible, accessible, and authoritative leader to nurses, midwives and AHPs.
Operations and Performance
• With the Associate Chief Nurse for Operations and Safeguarding provide effective leadership and line management for the Site Managers and support their training and development as part of the Trust’s major incident plans and arrangements.
• Responsible for the leadership and management of patient flow. This includes working collaboratively with the ICS to develop plans to secure the delivery of national, regional, and local flow and discharge priorities and improvements.
Safe and Effective Clinical practice
• Develop key strategies to improve patient outcomes and embed a culture of personalised care and professional practice.
• Responsible for providing specialist professional advice to senior nurses, midwives and AHPs regarding professional conduct issues.
Quality and Service Improvement
• Lead on the delivery of quality and transformation programmes as required.
• Lead service improvement and develop Trust-wide programmes to modernise services. Provide professional and clinical advice as needed.
Financial and People Management
• Effectively manage the budget allocated in accordance with the Trust's financial policies and procedures.
• Given the current financial pressures the NHS faces nationally and locally, balancing the cost of services with the provision of safe and effective care is crucial. As part of the ongoing effort to improve efficiency, the post holder will lead the procurement of nursing, midwifery and AHP services.
