The Senior Clinical Fellow will be expected to cover the Vascular and General surgical unit at middle grade (registrar) level. On call he/she will be supported by an FY1 and either an FY2 or a CT trainee and will answer to the on-call consultant. On call they will be required to cover the specialities of General Surgery, Vascular and Urology and in turn will be covered by the respective consultants in those specialities. The post-holder must respond promptly to calls from A&E and the wards (medical and surgical) to give advice and/or see and manage patients.

They would be expected to see urgent and emergency referrals from other disciplines/wards within the hospital. He/she must confer with the consultant on call and keep a record of such patients in the admission diary so that the patients could be appropriately followed up.

The Senior Clinical Fellow will keep an accurate and meticulous record in patient’s case notes and will supervise junior medical staff to do so. All entries in the case notes should be signed (with time, date and contact number). In addition he/she will provide clinical supervision and support to the junior medical staff.

They must keep accurate record of emergency admissions and referrals and formally handover to the on call team at the end of their shift. Handover must be formal, should follow the SBAR pattern (Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation) Similarly they must make sure that they have understood the patient’s problems and needs when receiving handover from somebody else. They will supervise juniors in writing comprehensive but succinct discharge letters and summaries. They must ensure that VTE prophylaxis assessment is undertaken and that prophylaxis is given.

They must supervise, guide and teach junior members of the team in such skills as time management and team working.

The Senior Clinical fellow will be expected to participate in departmental academic activities and audit of mortality and morbidity.

The role is based within the respiratory ward, working alongside a team of doctors, including 2 other registrars, foundation year doctors, core level trainees, and a consultant. You will be caring for predominantly respiratory patients, and some patients with general medical conditions (the ward has a strong support from the other medical and surgical specialties). You will be expected to cover inpatient referrals for respiratory opinions from other wards, with the appropriate consultant support. The role involves performing procedures, including pleural procedures on inpatients. There are opportunities to also support the pleural clinic by performing pleural procedures on outpatients if necessary.

It is therefore important to have a good background in respiratory medicine, and due to the hospital having an unselected medical take, to have some general medicine experience to help manage the ward inpatients.

The CAMHS Intensive Support Team (IST) across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes has an opportunity for experienced Mental Health professionals to join our team as a CAMHS Senior IST Practitioner (Occupational Therapist).

From January 2020 until June 2021 Bedfordshire CAMHS completed a successful pilot, in collaboration with Central Bedfordshire Children’s Services, called the Intensive Support Team.

This was part of the transforming care programme, working assertively to keep young people with learning disabilities and/or Autism closer to home without the need for inpatient units and / or from becoming a Looked After Child. The CAMHS Intensive Support Team (IST) across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes has an opportunity for experienced Mental Health professionals to join our team as a CAMHS Senior IST Practitioner (Occupational Therapist).

From January 2020 until June 2021 Bedfordshire CAMHS completed a successful pilot, in collaboration with Central Bedfordshire Children’s Services, called the Intensive Support Team. This was part of the transforming care programme, working assertively to keep young people with learning disabilities and/or Autism closer to home without the need for inpatient units and / or from becoming a Looked After Child. Following the successful pilot, funding was secured to set up a substantive IST across the ICS in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) in February 2021.



The post holders will have

A desire to be innovative and creative in meeting the needs of children, young people and families at a point of crisis

The ability to work within a team and forge good working relationships with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency colleagues

Experience of undertaking effective risk assessment, risk management and collaborative working with young people and families

Experience of working in a mental health setting with leadership, management and supervisory responsibilities.

Experience of working with young people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Learning Disabilities.

Experience in completing sensory integration assessments.

Great communication skills with young people and with colleagues from different sectors.

We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist experienced in Mental Health, who is committed to providing excellent care for young people and their families.

The Intensive Support Team (IST) works alongside the CAMHS Crisis Team, an integrated multi agency service offering treatment to young people and families with complex and significant mental health presentations. We provide short to medium term high intensity intervention with the aim of preventing hospital admission and work with local partners and CAMHS teams across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.

The work will range from Mental State assessments to multi-agency work including therapeutic work, care and behaviour support planning, consultation, peer supervision, joint work and participation in team meetings. You will be committed to delivering high quality care through evidence-based practice and in return we will demonstrate our commitment to your development through strong supervision and CPD opportunities. We value the importance of cohesive multi-disciplinary working and welcome applicants from all disciplines interested in the role.

We are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals with a strong professional identity to work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team and to provide effective and valued Occupational Therapy to our service users.

You will offer specialist occupational therapy interventions utilising the Model of Human Occupation. You will provide a range of Occupational Therapy interventions and within the CMHTs you will have the opportunity to implement group based programmes with other OT colleagues. Occupational Therapy has a strong identity within the directorate and is highly valued within the MDT.

Regular managerial and professional supervision will be provided and you will have bimonthly opportunities to participate in the services OT CPD events and contribute towards service development. Professional development and training are actively encouraged through the appraisal process.
