The Urology Department at Royal Derby Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Locally Employed Registrar CT2 starting on 15th January 2025 until 5th August 2025 with a possible extension to post. The department are looking for an enthusiastic experienced individual to join a forward thinking and proactive Urology team of 12 consultants, supporting in the delivery of a full range of urological services.

This post is designed to provide advanced experience in urological surgery. The successful appointee will be actively involved in supporting both emergency and elective urology activity including theatres, day case and outpatient clinics. The post holder will participate in the urology, trainee level on call rota. Whilst it is not a recognised training post, this post is well supervised and there are opportunities to learn and develop skills.

This post is to cover a specific period. The successful candidate must have completed all pre-employment checks and be available to commence 15th January 2025.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in the urology speciality, with the expectation that the post holder will undertake independent outpatient clinics, flexible cystoscopy sessions and act as first assistant in theatre. Undertaking the continued care & treatment of patients pre and post-operatively.

The post holder will have exposure to a wide range of training opportunities in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as the opportunity to attend departmental teaching.

• Helping to promote mental and physical activity of residents through hobbies, interests or activities within the village
• Answering emergency calls when care alert system is activated
• Working with the Domiciliary Care Manager and other external professionals such as GPs, Chiropodists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists where appropriate
• Admin duties: keeping accurate records - maintaining full documentation at all times to show care given, activities and any changes to their health

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

Ideally, you'll have experience of working in a care/dementia setting or you may have a Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), however, this isn't essential as full training will be provided. Above all, you'll be passionate about caring for others, respecting people's choices and always putting their safety and welfare first. A great listener with a positive outlook, you're confident talking to both residents and their families and understand that confidentiality is very important in what we do. The duration of this post is 6 months from August 2024 with the possibility of extension upon departmental needs. This post is a pure 6 month neonatal paediatric post but the appointed is expected to join in all the postgraduate paediatric activities of the unit.

The post holder is responsible for the day to day of patients under the care of the consultants in the NICU, Labour Ward and on the post-natal wards thus experience is gained in the assessment and management of ill neonates within the neonatal unit and the normal and common problems of newborn on the postnatal wards. Daytime support and supervision is by consultants and one of the middle grade doctors who are assigned to the neonatal unit.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is recognised as a Local Neonatal Unit providing intensive care services within the Trent Peri-natal Network, undertaking medical neonatal intensive care. It has 24 cots including 7 designated for critical care and 17 special care, and is adjacent to the delivery suite and theatres, serving approximately 6000 births per year. There are currently 5 Consultants committed to the neonatal service, working ‘service weeks’ with a Consultant ward round each day.

There is a separate EWTD compliant SHO rota for the Unit including ANNPs and specific middle grade cover through the day and evening. Out of hours middle grade cover is currently shared with paediatrics with Consultant back up.

The appointee will work a full shift rota as set out in the sample timetable. This will form part of the rota with other junior trainees.
