Background
The Corporate Banking Luxembourg (“CB Lux”) team works in a fast paced, dynamic environment. This role promises to be varied and interesting, with a steep learning curve, covering the breadth of the evolving Infrastructure, Renewables and Energy Transition markets.
The CB Lux team is active in a wide range of multi-faceted sectors including Transport assets (Ports, Rail, Airports),Transmission Networks, District Heating, Digital, Midstream and Energy Services. As a result, the team cover a substantial part of the Core and Core+ Infrastructure market. This is in addition to Renewables based platforms and Asset Level Project Financings in both Onshore (Wind & Solar) and Offshore (greenfield & brownfield) as well as the fast growing Energy Transition business.
League table performance has been elevated in recent years across the European platform, and CB Europe has an outsized market presence vis a vis our scale and footprint in our chosen sectors. This team is one of the most active North American Banks in the European market from a capital deployment perspective.
The CB team started its activities in July 2020. Since then, the loan book has grown quickly to a level that it has become efficient to hire a portfolio manager.
Purpose of Job
The Director will be expected to use a broad range of analytical and research skills to monitor and maintain the portfolio of loans booked in CIBC Luxembourg. The Director ensures high standards in account management and the day-to-day functioning of the Corporate Bankking team in Luxembourg.
Main Objectives
- Located in Luxembourg, the Director (D) is primarily responsible for portfolio management of the loan book provided to clients active in sectors such as Infrastructure Renewables and Energy Transition
- The Director will be perceived both internally and externally as an expert in the area of credit risks associated with companies and will be expected to apply a complete and current understanding of these risks in the management of the existing portfolio.
- Responsibility for and providing assistance to junior officers in monitoring and maintaining the credit portfolio, including annual reviews supported by a thorough analysis of relevant financial, business, industry and market information.
- Actively monitors the credit quality and exposure in the corporate banking portfolio by remaining current with the customer base, industry and economic trends, and market information. Ensures that accurate and consistent risk rating policies are applied across the portfolio.
Skills/ Knowledge Required
- 5-8 years related experience; MBA, CFA or other relevant professional designation is preferred.
- Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation. Approach to the workplace is based on open communication in a team atmosphere.
- Sophisticated analytical skills including extensive experience in analyzing company financial statements in order to assess credit risk. Experience cross selling structured finance solutions, particularly commodity, interest rate and credit derivatives to project finance and infrastructure projects.
- A solid understanding of the credit standards and terms for structured finance in order to work closely with the debt capital markets specialists and the credit approval process at CIBC and thereby successfully close financings and insure the clearance of the debt capital markets in syndication.
- Expert understanding of the Infrastructure, Midstream, Renewables and Energy Transition sectors, including fundamental market factors influencing a company’s ability to access the equity, investment grade debt or high yield capital markets.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to deal with multiple/conflicting demands and time constraints. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in dealing with a rapidly changing business environment.
- Ability to mentor and develop junior officers to achieve Corporate team objectives.
