We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join Southwark CAMHS Child and Family (under 12) team for a fixed term maternity cover role. The Child and Family Team is a well-established, dynamic and multidisciplinary team including psychiatry, clinical psychology, family therapy, nursing and a range of creative therapies. We provide assessments, evidence-based treatment and care coordination to children and young people referred to the service for complex mental health and behaviour difficulties. You will provide a specialist clinical service within the Southwark CAMHS Child and Family Team for children under 12 years old with complex mental health difficulties. This will include assessment, formulation treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes. You willcontribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

The post holder willprovide clinical supervision and advice and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist for children with complex mental health needs including in parenting interventions. They will undertake service evaluation, research and audit and to contribute to service development.

You will work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is working with MACANI, a highly respected Abu Dhabi based organisation with a mission to develop and extend high quality mental health care across the United Arab Emirates. The service has been operating in the UAE for nine years and since March 2018 the Service has been working with Emirates Health Services (EHS) to support the development of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital into a Centre of Excellence.

The service requires a Head of Education and Training, based within what is currently the Region’s only Hospital dedicated to psychiatric care. It is a truly exciting and unique opportunity to be part of a senior and experienced team working to support the further development of existing services and influence and shape new services in great facilities. You would be working closely with experienced senior staff from Maudsley Health and the in house leadership team at the Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. The Hospital has JCI Accreditation.

Mental Health services are still developing in the Region and the ability to use initiative a degree of flexibility and creativity will be required together with an appreciation of relevant cultural issues. Of greatest importance is the ambition to deliver high quality, evidence based services.

This post is in our Acute Inpatient Care Pathway, looking after working age adults. This post is for the Centralised Place of Safety (CPOS), located at the Maudsley Hospital. This purpose built unit is designed to admit patients admitted on either section 136 or section 135 and the post holder will work within an established MDT to assess and manage the acute physical and mental health needs of these patients. This service was the first 24/7 staffed Place of Safety to implement London’s section 136 pathway and Health Based Place of Safety specification has received positive feedback from users of mental health crisis services.

The unit is staffed with a full nursing team, unit manager and Consultant Psychiatrist. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team as Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners. Three posts are available, across our Secondary Care Psychological Therapies Service and our Lambeth Living Well Centres. This is an exciting brand-new role created by NHS England and Improvement to support the transformation of adult community mental health services. Your training will be fully funded by the NHS. In return, we ask that you commit to staying with us for at least two years after you qualify if you apply to continue to work with us as a qualified clinician.

This role will contribute to ensuring adults with severe mental health problems have greater access to psychologically informed interventions.

Please note: The trainee mental health wellbeing practitioner posts are training positions. Successful candidates will be expected to study at university (we expect University College London) and may need to travel to campus, and will need to travel between Southwark station area, Brixton and Streatham and the team catchment areas across the borough of Lambeth for their clinical work.

This is a training role within adult community mental health services. The Advanced Practitioner role would suit an experienced band 6 looking to step-up and gain valuable leadership / management experience, or a band 7 looking for an opportunity to broaden their CV by working in a more specialised service.

The successful applicant will work alongside the LEIS Team Leader, Service Manager and other senior team members to deliver the EI model of care in Lewisham.

The role includes management/supervision responsibilities, clinical leadership, care coordinating a small caseload and overseeing the referrals pathway.
• To support the team leader in providing managerial oversight of LEIS. This includes undertaking the supervision of 4-6 care coordinators, taking a lead in clinical decision making, overseeing aspects of recruitment in the team, and managing the referral pathway in and out of LEIS.
• To provide care co-ordination and case management to a defined caseload of service users within the framework of the Care Programme Approach (CPA). The caseload will consist of service users who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis. The interventions that are provided will focus on engagement, recovery, rehabilitation and integration with the community.

LEIS is a multidisciplinary, community based Early Intervention in Psychosis Service working with people between 18 and 65 years of age who are experiencing their first psychotic episode. LEIS works assertively and intensively with service users and carers to promote engagement with the team and with treatment, and to facilitate social inclusion and recovery.

Care coordination


1. Assessment: Undertaking complex initial assessments for first episode psychosis - e.g. where there is diagnostic uncertainty, mixed presentations, complicated history, dual diagnosis.
2. Care coordination: To provide care co-ordination and case management to a defined caseload of service users within the framework of the Care Programme Approach (CPA). The size of the AP caseload will be dependant on the needs of the service, but the approximate maximum for an advanced practitioner is 10.

Key Management Responsibilities
1. Supervision and support: The post-holder will line manage approx. 6 members of staff, which will mainly consist of Care Coordinators. The post holder will ensure that each member of staff receives regular supervision and appraisal, and are offered essential and developmental training in accordance with their personal development plans and the needs of the service. The post holder will ensure that they are able to prioritise their tasks so that they can support care coordinators accross the team to meet with high risk and/or complex clients.
2. Referral pathway: To oversee the referral pathway within LEIS, this includes: helping to ensure that the team consistently meet the Waiting Time Standard, having oversight of referrals coming into the team, and helping to ensure that clients are discharged from the service according to the 3 year maximum period of suppor: It is essential that the post holder develops a robust and competent understanding of the service’s eligibility criteria and supports clinicians in the service to develop their own understanding of the criteria.
3. Recruitment: To support the Team Leader in undertaking the full recruitment process when vacancies occur
4. Deputising: To deputise on behalf of the Team Leader when the Team Leader is not present in the team. This includes undertaking tasks pertinent to the Team Leader role.
5. Clinical Lead: to act as a clinical lead in the team, both informally when providing guidance to colleagues, and also in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings when crucial clinical decisions are being made.
6. Finances: To support the Team Leader to ensure team finances are managed within allocated budget, including recruitment of staff.
7. Management of Information and Communication: To develop and maintain good communication between the multidisciplinary team and other agencies, in particular those referring to the team such as GPs, other community teams, ward services and home treatment teams.
8. Ensure that all communication (verbal or written) between the team and other departments or agencies is of a high standard both in its content and presentation.
9. Management of the Environment: To support the Team Leader to ensure that the Health and Safety at Work Act is adhered to by all staff and that all staff receive any training necessary in order to meet the requirements of the Act. (eg. fire safety training, first aid, etc.). This also includes supporting the Team Leader in ensuring the safety of the working environment.
10. Personal Development and Responsibilities: To ensure that they are fully aware of current developments and practice in their clinical area. The post holder will also make effective use of supervision with their line manager on a regular and agreed basis in being aware of the need to reflect on their practice both as clinician and manager. To be aware of and adhere to all Trust Policies and act as a role model to other staff and meet the required professional standards for ongoing registration.

Lewisham CAMHS Service

The Directorate is committed to a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, 4 tiered Service and has been at the forefront, nationally, of developments at Tiers 1 and 2 with Child Mental Health Specialists based in the community and working in GP practices, schools and Early Years Centres. Lewisham CAMHs has teams based on three locations. Three teams based at Kaleidoscope Children's centre: Horizon, our generic service, the Neuro-developmental Team for children and young people with neuro-developmental problems, and the Paediatric Liaison Service that offers a service for children with physical health problems who are being treated by University Hospital Lewisham. Three teams are based at the Lewisham Park site: Symbol, which works with Looked After Children and adopted children; LYPS (Lewisham Young Person Service ) who offer support to adolescents with severe mental health disorders and the Child Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs) who offer a well-being service to children who present with low mood, mild anxiety or behavioural problems that do not reach the threshold for mainstream CAMHS. The Adolescent Resource Team (ARTS) which is a service for young people who offend or who are at risk of offending are co-located with the Youth Offending Service. In addition to the specialist work conducted within Lewisham, there is access to tier 4 inpatient service at Bethem and Guy's hospital.




Clinical and Client Care


• Manage day to day clinical risks and clinically advise team members on courses of action

You will be responsible for the operational day to day planning, monitoring and delivery of patient services within the directorate, in addition to financial performance and strategic responsibility for their development. You will be part of the Directorate’s Senior Leadership Team and have line management responsibilities for the General Managers and Clinical Service Leads, working closely as a team to ensure success. 

(SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Leadership, as part of the Operations Directorate SLT

1. Provide strong visible leadership across the Operations Directorate to ensure the delivery of high quality patient focused services

2. Drive through the delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance within the Operations Directorate.

3. Introduce new and innovative strategies to maximise organisational efficiency.

4. Provide professional support and coaching to the management team.

2) Service Development

1. In collaboration with the Clinical Director take lead responsibility for the implementation of improved patient care ensuring and continuously monitor the outcomes of services.

2. To have an active role in determining Operations Directorate priorities and objectives and contribute to the Trust’s strategic plan.

3. To provide demonstrable assurance that processes are in place for continual review of services to achieve an optimal fit between clinical service delivery and current best practice.

4. Encourage and promote a quality and improvement agenda to ensure sharing good practice and excellence as appropriate.

5. Provide demonstrable assurance of clinical services delivery and patient outcomes, ensuring Commissioner clarity and effective service strategy within the Operations Directorate, other Operations Directorates in the Trust and KHP Clinical Academic Groups.

3) Operational & Performance Management

1. To manage the operational performance of the Operations Directorate ensuring the delivery of high quality patient care.

2. To develop operational objectives within Operations Directorate, to ensure the achievement of Trust Targets and are consistent with Trust objectives.

3. Provide demonstrable assurance that effective clinical governance, risk management and controls assurance systems and procedures are embedded into the culture of the Operations Directorate

4. Ensure capital utilisation is maximised to optimise productivity and improve patient care including effective infection control systems.

5. Work closely with Clinicians, Managers and Trust Leads to ensure that the Operations Directorate is meeting its contractual obligations.

6. To lead on performance management systems in the Operations Directorate in order to provide assurance to the Operations Directorate Leadership and Trust Board that the Operations Directorate is meeting its statutory and contractual requirements.

7. To lead on wider strategies to deliver integrated models of care as part of the Kings Health Partners mission to develop integrated care in community settings.

8. To lead on the delivery of Operations Directorate performance improvement programmes.

9. To manage the Operations Directorate Business and Planning function and develop and deliver the Operations Directorate business plan cycle.

10. As part of the Operations Directorate SLT, to investigate and monitor with service managers and the Clinical Director SI’s complaints and disciplinary issues and provide specialist advice as necessary.

4) Financial Management

1. Work with the Finance Business Partner to provide demonstrable assurance that robust financial management systems and processes are in place to optimally utilise the Operations Directorate budget and resources.

2. Meet annual financial targets including Trust Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP), Commissioner Quality Innovation Prevention and Productivity programmes (QIPP) and any relevant partnership/alliance improvement programmes.

3. Provide demonstrable assurance that all delegated budgets within the Operations Directorate adhere to Trust Standing Financial Instructions and Standing Orders.

4. Establish a system for business risk evaluation of service developments.

5) Governance and Risk

1. Provide demonstrable assurance that patient safety is at the centre of Operations Directorate planning, analysis and performance delivery.

2. Provide demonstrable assurance that the Directorate employs robust risk management and systems for clinical quality and safety improvement.

3. Promote clinical information for benchmarking and audit to improve patient experience and delivery of excellent performance.

4. Provide demonstrable assurance that systems are in place to deliver accurate and timely statutory information (e.g. Data Protection and Freedom of Information).

5. As part of the Operations Directorate SLT, provide demonstrable assurance of strategy and practice implemented to achieve all regulatory duties and other compliance standards.

6) Human Resource Management

1. Develop and maintain robust staff development systems within the Operations Directorate engendering a culture of openness, value and respect.

2. Establish effective communication systems with all members of staff within the Directorate. Communication systems will reflect a two way relationship allowing Trust information to be disseminated, whilst also allowing individuals an opportunity to feedback any ideas or concerns.

3. Work with the HR Function and the HR Business Partners to ensure that all managers and employees comply with Trust policies and procedures, HR best practice and employment law.

The Senior Communications Manager plays a crucial role in enhancing and protecting the reputation of the organisation. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Temporary Staffing Manager to join South London and Maudsley NHS Trust on an 18 month fixed term contract initially. This is a crucial role in ensuring we have the right staff in the right place at the right time to deliver high quality care. This is a pivotal role for the Trust in regards to ensuring effective management of our outsourced temporary staffing provider.



The main purpose of this role will be to oversee and support the management of the contract with the Trust’s outsourced partner/s for the management of temporary staffing, both medical and non-medical; ensuring identified savings are delivered in contracted timescales, while ensuring the Trust is responsive to the managed service and other outsourced partners requirements.

Through the managed service provider and outsourced partners, the post holder will be expected to monitor the performance of agencies, drive agency reduction projects inline with NHS England guidance and lead the Trust’s operational work to reduce agency usage and spend across all services to meet the Trust’s annual agency spend objectives including driving migration of workers from agency to bank and supporting bank workers to substantive contracts, ensuring optimal use of temporary staff, reducing expenditure and ensuring value for money.

About the location:

The post will be based at Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill with a view to moving to Brixton in the coming months.

Ensure that fit for purpose systems, policies and procedures are in place for the provision of Bank and agency staff in all areas of the Trust, with ongoing reviews.

Support the retendering process to procure bank and agency services in conjunction with the Procurement Department.

To lead the Trust’s operational work to reduce agency usage and spend across all services to meet the Trust’s annual agency spend objectives including driving migration of workers from agency to bank and supporting bank workers to substantive contracts, ensuring optimal use of temporary staff, reducing expenditure and ensuring value for money.

To work across the system, including the ICB, to ensure that the Trust leads and participates actively in this work to achieve efficiencies and share best practice;

Attend monthly and quarterly contract meetings with the Trust’s managed service provider and outsourced partners to review and create ongoing actions to ensure staff staffing and quality is maintained, while reducing premium spend through bank and agency work. Sharing updates to support board level regular updates.

To be the contact in relation to temporary staffing with NHS Improvement and any other of the Trust’s regulatory bodies;

Responsibility for all reporting (internally and externally) of temporary staffing with the Trust’s Managed Service, outsourced partner and Trust’s workforce information team;

In conjunction with Workforce Information, collate, interpret and present a range of complex management information relating to the use of Bank and agency staff regularly and on an ad-hoc basis (i.e. fill rates, shift breakdowns, spend etc).

Interrogate and analyse temporary staffing reports to identify more efficient ways of driving out unnecessary cost.

Support with writing and presenting board level reports on bank and agency expenditure for all staff groups, identifying trends, actions and improvements.

Ensure that systems, policies and procedures are in place for the provision of Bank and agency staff in all areas of the Trust.

Working closely with our partners to understand the diverse needs of the Trust to manage the Managed Service and outsource services correctly

Maintain clear and creative communications about the Trust’s approach to temporary staffing on our intranet and externally and attend meetings as appropriate as the ‘technical expert’;

Through the Managed Service and outsourced providers, ensure robust processes of approval and escalation for use of agency staff in line with NHS Improvement best practice guides, working closely with Services and procurement to drive compliance with NHS Improvement agency rules regarding price caps and frameworks.

To be responsible for identification of and then raising identified risks to the Associate Director of People & OD, the agency project groups, and helping senior leaders and managers to develop their own solutions for these risks;

Completion of all Freedom of Information Requests in relation to area of responsibility.

Ensure all advice and the administration of temporary staffing for the admin and clerical staff group is undertaken for the Trust’s requirements.

To engage, communicate and work closely with the teams involved in the contract (Finance, People & OD, Procurement, Operational teams, Rostering team);

To be the primary expert support to the Trust agency project groups;

To be the HR expert in relation to the impact of IR35 and any subsequent legislation that impacts on agency workers, liaising closely with key stakeholders;

To engage with external stakeholders, including other local NHS Trusts, to ensure the Trust shares best practice.

To promote consistency of practice informed by examples of good practice external to and around the organisation;

To ensure the effective planning, monitoring and coordination/management of the Trust's temporary staffing agenda with the external provider;

Promote corporate and local induction programmes for temporary staff, maintaining close scrutiny of third-party suppliers with regard to Corporate expectations for personal development and statutory training compliance.

Develop strategies in conjunction with other managers that promote a positive employment experience for Bank staff and agency workers.
