Mechanical Manager
Great Western Hospital
Full time – 37.5 hours per week
Salary £45,000
- £55,000, depending on experience, plus Serco benefits.
Main Purpose:
To manage and supervise the Mechanical Estates team and contractors to enable the safe, efficient and effective maintenance of the plant & equipment supporting services within the hospital.
Main Accountabilities:
- To organise and plan the workload and issue Planned Preventive Maintenance Work Orders, Reactive Work Orders and New Works requests to the Estates workforce in an efficient manner, covering; repairs, fault finding, servicing, commissioning, maintenance, and new works to a wide range of Services, Plant and Equipment within all areas of the Hospital.
- To manage and supervise the workforce effectively in delivering the above, both during the normal working day and works required out ‘out of normal hours’ including on call. To ensure the Estates Workforce complete all necessary documentation.
- To ensure that PMS targets are met.
- To ensure continuity of out of hours On call or shift.
- To manage Estates Workforce sickness.
- To monitor the standard of work carried out by the Estates workforce.
- To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines
- To take a proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices.
- To manage the Estates Workforce in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
- To manage procurement of Parts and Materials.
- To always work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other’s safety.
- To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Managers.
- To be prepared to carry out Technician’s duties in the event of temporary staff shortage.
- To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
- To be aware of how the role influences Serco’s Great Western Hospital contract and the wider company objectives.
- Be prepared to take on Authorised Person Duties which could include but not limited to Pressure systems, Legionella RP, Ventilation, Medical Gas (All training will be provided).
- On receipt of contractor maintenance reports, interpret remedial actions required and place onto concept for tracking and ensure remedial action takes place in timely manner.
- Support on any audit’s and advise on technical queries using knowledge of legislation, best practice & manufacturers guidance.
- Support Soft FM, Security, Catering colleagues to achieve KPI’s set on their service.
- Act as deputy to Technical Services Manager as required.
- Present technical information to not technical audiences in an easy-to-understand manor.
- Control of budgets.
What you will need for the role:
- HNC, HND Desirable or Equivalent Technical Experience Essential.
- Completion of a recognised appropriate Engineering/Mechanical Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program.
- Appropriate City & Guilds and or BTEC certification.
- Proven experience of working in a similar environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of Building Services.
- Good People management skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Comprehensive knowledge & understanding of high-level technical systems.
- Experience working within healthcare environment desirable.
- Authorised Person Training desirable but can be provided.
- Previous Experience in a health care setting Desirable.
- Understanding of Health technical memorandums (HTM and HBN)
- Takes Ownership & develops site-specific knowledge to allow appointment as AP / identifies support & Training required to enable training programmes to be implemented.
- Identifies Training needs with team.
