Carbon60 are currently recruiting for a global water technology provider to recruit a Mechanical Workshop/ Field Service Engineer in the Axminister area, to join the team in the servicing and repairing of mechanical equipment. The role will be based in the Axminster workshop with field service responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will hold strong mechanical knowledge with solid hands on experience of carrying out repairs to industrial equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes or similarly heavy equipment. However, there are opportunities for training and development here, so long as you have a strong mechanical knowledge you can be considered.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for fixing mechanical elements such as pumps and motors. Other equipment will be required but pumps will be a large part of this role. The ability to strip a piece of equipment and take it apart is desirable.

There will also be an element of field service work. You will be responsible for carrying out planned and preventative maintenance, fault location and diagnoses as well as demonstrate a good understanding with Health and Safety procedures on company sites.

The patch you will cover stretches from St. Ives to Andover so anyone in the Taunton and Yeovil area would be ideal. You will need to liaise with a variety of people when attending sites so good communication skills are important in this role.

The role
As a Systems Engineer, you will support multiple design and build projects. Essential experience of the Systems Engineer

• EMC/EMI experience
• Working knowledge of lab test equipment such as spectrum analysers, generators, amplifiers, and measurement antennas.
• Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to successfully allocate, tailor, and flow down system level EMC/EMI requirements into lower-level requirements.
• Ideal candidates can show extensive design experience with EMI filters, circuit layout and analysis for EMC/EMI, shielding, lightning protection, cable, and harnessing design.
• Candidates with working knowledge and experience in modelling and simulation of EMC/EMI using commercially available software is a plus

The role:
As a Weapons Systems Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll have the opportunity to support the team undertaking defect rectification, repair, overhaul and operational support on a wide range of weapon systems and naval equipment in support of the Royal Navy.

Day-to-day, you'll be the technical lead in set to work and installation/maintenance activities. Primarily improving the 4.5-Medium Calibre Gun (MCG) naval weapons system but will also support a wide portfolio of best-in-class intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance solution, communications and weapons launch and handling solutions.

You'll also:

• Set to work activities include fault rectification within the test site and on board
• Factory acceptance testing within the test site
• Operational Defect (OPDEF) support on Royal Navy vessels including system heath checks
• Facilitating key stakeholders to keep them up to date on the current status and reporting progress
• Mentor junior team members
• Compile technical report documents

This role is full time, 35-hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. You must be able to work away from site at short notice.

Essential experience of the Weapons Systems Engineer:

• Proven experience working as a Weapons System engineer or within an engineering discipline.
• Experience of Gunnery/Fire Control systems or similar complex sensor systems and proven experience of Royal Navy operations and/or support
• Excellent communicator, both verbally and in written form
• Awareness of systems engineering practices and systems thinking is an essential part of this role
• Possess good computer literacy, with demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to adopt and utilise specialist software as required
