Middleware Administration

The Engineering Delivery Management (EDM) role is focused on technical management of all engineering activities. Job Description

One Research Engineer position is open in the research group of Assistant Professor Zhao Lin, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Research Engineer (RE) will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on visual navigation foundation model for mobile robots, exploration using reinforcement learning control, learning-based control, etc. The RE will develop and train algorithms that enable intelligent and robust autonomous navigation in unseen environments. Hardware experiments will be carried out to test and demonstrate the applications of the developed algorithms.

The initial appointment duration is 12 months, which can then be extended based on an evaluation at the end of the initial appointment.

The candidates should have a Master’s degree from a reputable university, with expertise in robot learning, reinforcement learning, and aerial robotics.

A successful candidate should have a solid mathematical background (such as in calculus, linear algebra, ODE/PDE, optimization, real analysis, probability theory, stochastic process, etc). Serves as an engineer within the Federal Aviation Administration. In this capacity, directly participates in and is responsible for planning, developing, reviewing, and evaluating major aviation safety research initiatives. Uses professional engineering principles on a wide variety of research efforts that lead to a safe, efficient, and cost-effective National Airspace System (NAS) through the research & development of innovative aviation technologies.

Develops and implements independent and interdependent engineering studies to resolve issues and/or identify problems. Analyzes, tests and evaluates operational and technical information; identifies, mitigates or resolves current or potential problems with systems. Evaluates existing/proposed policies, standards, requirements, and objectives for efficient performance of programs and systems. Evaluates state-of-the-art technology, aerospace engineering concepts, and potentially useful tests and evaluations internal and external to FAA. Analyzes trends, developments, and performance data. Determines compatibility with established/planned systems and their desirability and effectiveness. Identifies requirements for new or modified standards, objectives, policies, or system modifications.

Submits fully documented recommendations for systems acquisition, approval, and/or modification to supervisor. Functions as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) during the acquisition and procurement cycle. Participates in a team that reviews contractor proposals for adequacy of design, and for operation, maintenance, and implementation procedures. Conducts feasibility, cost-benefit, and other studies for technical and fiscal adequacy. Submits evaluations and recommendations to Contracting Officer.

Participates and contributes to an interdisciplinary team of technical experts to develop, test, evaluate, and/or implement aircraft systems and/or components that impact the NAS. Represents the organizational unit at various seminar, committee, user group panel, and conference meetings at intraagency, interagency, aviation industry, and national levels.

• Performs planning and design work for substantial multi-phase new construction, renovations, and improvement projects for real property facilities, including utility systems, utilizing a professional knowledge of engineering.
• Manages projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities and maintains surveillance over construction contractors utilizing a professional knowledge of general engineering and knowledge of architecture to ensure overall compliance with contracted specifications, schedules, etc.
• Plans, programs, budgets, and executes required projects in support of assigned programs. Performs work in facilities operations and maintenance (O&M) functions. Provides consulting services and project coordination.
• Collects data and evaluates factors which affect the application of concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to observe, examine, measure, analyze, map, and describe physical and technical features and phenomena.
• Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

• Serves as a General Engineer developmental intern within DCMA.
• Completes classroom and on-the-job training to acquire, exercise, and maintain knowledge of the duties inherent in the performance of professional general engineering duties.
• Performs general engineering duties in support of a senior engineer who is responsible for two or more engineering functions, in connection with assigned products, processes, components, or systems.
• In a developmental capacity, all DCMA Keystone engineers will engage in multi-functional teams to perform advanced predictive analysis, develop or assist in the development and communication of engineering findings and recommendations.
• Provides technical consultation to stakeholders, customers, all Contract Management Team (CMT) members.
• Provides technical assistance to the supervisor of record or other senior engineers in progressively responsible assignments for a segment of a complex project as well as specific engineering duties.
• Drafts project details on the basis of precedents established in related projects, devising and recommending alternative methods of analysis as a basis for solving problems.
• In a developmental capacity, attends meetings and professional conferences and exchanges information with other engineers to keep abreast of the latest engineering developments within defense acquisition.
• Utilizes effective written and oral communication skills in the performance of engineering duties.
