Job Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role is responsible for supporting the Product Development strategy delivering profitable organic growth and continuous improvement. The role is part of the Engineering Department and involves working effectively with the Projects, Production and Quality Engineering teams and Manufacturing Department.
Responsibilities
Design market leading products applying sound engineering practice in a timeframe consistent with the business objectives.
Liaise with customers through the quotation and pre-production phases in order to understand customer need and provide class leading technology.
Apply innovation to product design, optimising value added performance characteristics and functionality to gain competitive advantage.
Interpret and apply relevant engineering standards, legislation, certification and customer compliance requirements.
Compile design reports, stress calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and other relevant design validation methodology.
Apply significant specialist knowledge in technology, certification or industrial applications to New Product Development.
Take leadership in design validation and qualification testing, including planning research and Research and Development (R&D) and sub-contracted resources.
Drive concurrent engineering, applying appreciation for manufacturing methodology, process capability, assembly, testing methodology and inspection process capability.
Co-ordinate project teams when appropriate to ensure the related small team of engineers efficiently release the pre-production project workload.
Check, verify, and sign off work completed by Level 1,2 and 3 Design Engineers as appropriate, providing mentorship if required.
Apply VAVE to product design, ensuring manufacturing costs are minimised and cost targets are achieved by working effectively with production engineers.
Provide detailed instructions for manufacture, inspection and R&D testing within the New Product Development process.
Requirements
Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification or experience.
Knowledge of valve design technologies - relevant experience in materials, mechanics, engineering mathematics, magnetics, fluid power, corrosion, stress and thermodynamics.
Knowledge of fluid power applications and circuit design, component selection, installation methods, performance interactions and control systems.
In depth understanding of modern manufacturing methods, inspection and assembly techniques within a precision CNC engineering and electronics environment.
Sound understanding of technical risk mitigation, design validation and qualification methodology.
Proficient in engineering software as applicable, 2D and 3D CAD, FEA, CFD, Mathcad, MS Office, preferably using Autodesk platforms (AutoCAD, Inventor, Ansys)
Desirable
Experience with high pressure valve design for Nuclear, Oil and Gas, or Space and related certification, customer practices and regulations.
