- This is a developmental position. If the selection should be at the lower grade level the incumbent will perform duties under closer than normal supervision. Assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached.
- Coordinate with other agencies within the Department of the Army to advance projects to meet toxic metal reduction goals as defined by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology).
- Conduct technical planning, organization, and technical assessments, and risk management of new chemical processes and applications to accomplish the necessary repair/overhaul of aircraft/components.
- Apply scientific theory to chemical processes such as electroplating, chemical cleaning, paint stripping, application of coatings, adhesive bonding of metals, and corrosion control that are used in the repair.
- Research and develop new processes for repair, maintenance, and overhaul of aircraft components. Employs lean/six sigma tools such as failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and design of experiments (DOE) to improve process capability.
- As an authority in the field of chemical engineering and material finishing, will be called upon to provide technical expertise on a wide variety of related issues and provide training.
