Controls Engineers work within engineering groups to support the implementation of the control strategy for advanced vehicle control systems. Controls work encompasses advanced control strategy development and verification for engine, hybrid, and electric vehicles, for components (electronic control modules, motors, drives, engines, generators, energy storage cells, sensors, etc.), and for autonomous vehicle systems, advanced suspensions systems, material handling systems, and other auxiliary systems for on-road and off-road applications.

YOUR IMPACT:  

• Under supervision, perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks. 
• Deliver results according to Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards and processes.
• Support more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and/or reporting.

DESCRIPTION

Within the Technology Development Team, you'll enjoy the freedom to explore new projects, the support to think outside the box and the advanced tools and technology that foster innovation and achievement. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of AI systems into JLG’s product line of Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, and Telehandlers. The role consists of delivering a robust solution that uses innovative sensor technologies and algorithms to enable safe and efficient operation of our machines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform essential AI, Vision & Sensing development tasks including system trade studies, component modeling, deep learning algorithm development.
• Design and implement machine learning models on an edge processor and camera chips.
• Propose and evaluate architecture concepts, perform architecture and technology trade-off analysis.
• Work with data from various perception sensors including Lidar, Camera, and Radar.
• Work with synthetic data to develop machine learning models.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop and integrate complex hardware/software systems.
• Participate in rapid prototyping activities to develop advanced sensing and AI capabilities.
• Optimize on-board inference speed and quality.
• Design metrics and architect software to gauge performance against requirements.
• Contribute to architecture concepts, operational concepts, and technology trade-off analyses.
• Participate in requirements definition and (sub)-functions description.
• Give technical presentations and provide technical support to Engineering stakeholders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or other related fields.
• Minimum 3-6 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience deploying machine learning code in production environment such as embedded boards or camera chips.
• Experience in developing machine learning models using TensorFlow, ONN, OpenCV, or PyTorch.
• Industry experience building GPU optimized algorithms using CUDA.
• Excellent C++and Python coding, strong engineering practices, debugging/profiling skills
• Strong foundation in mathematics and fundamentals (3D geometry, linear algebra, data fitting methods like DBSCAN or RANSAC)
• Experience with agile software development practices.
• Experience in a regulatory environment.
• Experience with highly automated systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Manufacturing Engineer will coordinate manufacturing processes by developing, evaluating and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

YOUR IMPACT

The Chief Engineer – Mechanical leads and manages the engineering team. Responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts across different engineering disciplines. Responsible for making critical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering initiatives. Develop and foster engineers to think innovatively, hold accountability, and process improvement daily. Provides advanced, technical leadership within the engineering department/platform. Conduct collaborative research of new technology and processes associated with vehicle design and systems and apply strategically to vehicles. This role will also direct high level engineering analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope to ensure that designs meet customer requirements, corporate objectives, are safe, and can be manufactured.

• Lead compliance and program assessments of manufacturing sites; follow up with manufacturing departments on successful closure of findings and recommendations.

• Review capital projects and major process changes to ensure that the changes appropriately address all applicable environmental aspects.

• Review and/or prepare various annual environmental reports as required by local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.

As an Electrical Engineering Intern at JLG, you will assist Electrical Engineers with multiple tasks and projects to gain knowledge and experience in various aspects of Engineering.

YOUR IMPACT

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

• Support Electrical Engineers in the design and integration of vehicle control/embedded systems development.

• Select parts or components for quality conscious design, i.e. weight, cost, reliability, and ease of manufacturing.

• Generate bill of materials.

• Utilize design and troubleshooting methods for heavy-duty off-highway vehicle type electrical/electronic systems, including power distribution, controls circuitry, sensors and CAN bus communication networks.

• Generate test procedures for electronic design verification.

• Perform electrical/electronic/software testing on benchtop or JLG machines independently or as part of a team.

• Design and develop wiring schematics and harnesses.

• Generate/modify drawings, specification, and bills of material.

• Utilize various tools such as multimeters/oscilloscopes, Vector CANalyzer, and proprietary programming tools for design verification and interrogation on JLG product.

• Assemble/Install prototype harnesses for testing as needed.

• Use hand tools for access to components, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS   

• Student working towards a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related engineering degree.

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Exposure to Python, C++ or related programming language

• Exposure to controls/software design

• Hand soldering skills

• Willingness to be hands on within various project phases, as needed.

As a Principal Manufacturing Footprint Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in high level analysis and design of new and modified footprint and layout of manufacturing facilities at JLG. This will include analyzing the internal layout of a facility and the overall footprint of all product flow and manufacturing locations across every manufacturing location within our organization. This role will help analyize and provide recomendations on what product will be built where, and why

YOUR IMPACT

• Perform a wide variety of investigative and analytical studies related to global footprint strategy.  Ensure that manufacturing factories are optimally located to support customer base and correct products are being manufactured in the right location.

• Lead and participate in long range enterprise capacity planning

• Manage and coordinate resources to drive manufacturing projects that support the global manufacturing strategy

• Lead and provide support for the justification and selection of major capital equipment

• Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies and innovation that provide additional capability within the factories.  Create business case to justify new manufacturing processes and implement on global scale.

• Conduct research, development and deployment of digital manufacturing technology into global manufacturing facilities.  Support digital manufacturing initiatives by leading proof of concept (POC) studies and scale them to production levels.

• Collaborate with other manufacturing departments such as quality, materials, EHS, and facilities

• Apply project management skills (schedule, cost, communications) and coordination of internal and external resources to execute projects in a timely and cost-effective manner

• Drive maturity of the overall plant knowledge of technology, adoption of new technologies, and ensure factories in the regions have the best access to the latest technological thinking and possible solutions.

• Strong knowledge in applying factory simulation tools & developing optimized factory design and material flow

• Develop discrete event simulation models for future state scenarios to calculate throughput, utilization, number of cells, queue size, and other KPIs.

• Use statistical analysis to validate results

• Experience with FlexSim, Arena, AutoMod, Simul8 or similar software platform

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering

• 5+ years related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to participate or lead a cross-functional team.

• Project management experience, including the ability to manage a project by delivering scope, cost and schedule.

• Capable of working in a collaborative and team focused environment; open to new ideas

• Demonstrated understanding of fabrication processes – cutting, bending, machining, welding, coating, assembly

• Able to evaluate potential innovative technology areas

• Must be proficient with CAD software (AutoCAD) and simulation software

• Strategic thinker

• Time management and problem solving skills
