Job Opening: Quality Engineer

Position Overview: The Quality Engineer (QE) role is responsible to pro-actively support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Tellico quality management system to ensure a consistently high level of performance within the facility and market segments that we participate.  The scope of the role will include activities spanning supplier quality, internal process control, and customer feedback.  The Quality Engineer will be accountable to help drive continuous improvement through the facility by analyzing quality data, prioritizing opportunities and leading improvement activities throughout the entire operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Pro-actively facilitate the development of Quality Systems to provide consistent inspection and testing to meet company standards of good sound visual quality and functional reliability.
• This role will support both internal and external quality processes.
• Improve processes to reduce common cause variability and eliminate special cause by following Problem Solving techniques such as Six Sigma (DMAIC).
• Use of structured quality improvement tools including six sigma tools is required.
• Ensure appropriate collection of quality data, analyze the data for trends, identify corrective action opportunities, and drive corrective action activities.
• Interpret basic technical drawings including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning, tolerancing, etc. Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics.
• Assist in the development, maintenance and reporting of quality measurements and analysis. Helps determine the adequacy and accuracy of quality standards. Where standards are not available, coordinates their development.
• Promote and ensure quality activities in manufacturing and support functions to assure that Quality Metrics improve.
• Facilitate and train employee groups on process improvement and waste elimination techniques.
• Lead teams in applying structured problem-solving methodology and tools to eliminate waste.
• Some common tools required to use are: Process Map, Pareto Chart, Trend Chart, Fishbone Diagram, 5-Why Analysis, Histogram, SPC, FMEA, 5S, Correlation Analysis, Error-proofing, and Control Plans.
• Investigate, analyze, and benchmark industry practices for process validation assessments.
• Accurately maintain company records and documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Actively support and lead our Corrective Action processes.
• Perform special assignments as required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field required although consideration will be given to individuals with commensurate marine experience

• Must be willing to complete additional advanced education/training courses as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

• At least 3-5 years in a Quality or Manufacturing Engineering position required. Preferred time spent working in the marine industry.
• Hold a Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or ability to acquire.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certification (or equivalent) or ability to acquire.
• Must have working knowledge of CAR methodology, computer literate, root cause analysis, be able to apply inspection data for process control, process capability assessment, ISO quality systems, and SPC.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio. Statistical software.
• Thorough knowledge of statistical process control, teaching skills, blueprint analysis, quality concepts, basic and advanced quality tools, and problem-solving techniques.
• Ability to lead, teach and motivate a team.
• Able to work a flexible work schedule when required.
• Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to get along with diverse personalities while remaining tactful, professional, and flexible.
• Good written and oral communication to communicate with all levels of the organization.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Mercury Marine is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed, self-starter, to function as a Facilities Mechanical Systems Engineer for our Fond du Lac, WI campus.  This individual will be responsible to work with engineers, managers, operations, research & development and maintenance to design, develop and maintain campus building mechanical infrastructure systems and industrial process systems.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering of office and large industrial mechanical support infrastructure including; HVAC, boiler, chiller, point source capture, natural gas, compressed air, water and sanitary systems.

Conceptual engineering, engineering design and analyses to support Project Engineers and Management on capital expenditure projects for large industrial systems including casting, finishing, machining, paint systems, engine and drive product assembly and testing.

Support Facilities operations through activities such as, building expansions, process improvements, utility, environmental, safety and sustainability system upgrades, machine and system relocations and new equipment installations.

Facility energy management including usage analysis, risk identification, ROI calculations, utility incentives and systems operation.

Support corporate sustainability initiatives including; water and energy reduction; promoting best practices in energy management, action planning to support sustainability strategies, act as a liaison with suppliers, utility companies and government agencies on energy initiatives.

Manage or assist capital expenditure projects from conception or design, to purchase, fabrication, construction, installation, commissioning and control.  Complete planning and scheduling for relocation and refurbishment of equipment and machinery.

Responsible for technical support including, engineering designs, project planning, cost estimates, justification, construction, fabrication or installation support.  Provide leadership to internal and external multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs, design processes and design standards are compatible.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

BSME from an accredited engineering school

5 - 7 years’ experience

Proficiency with ACAD Architect

Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Project and Power Point

Cost Engineer

Summary of Position: A Cost Engineer develops analytical cost models while working closely with component engineers and provides program teams with the target cost of new product design or design change proposal. Review Supplier quotes and assist Buyers in negotiation. The successful candidate will:

• Provide guidance to Designers/Design Engineers for proposed new or modified designs to achieve required function at minimum cost.
• Apply DFA/DFM tools to analyze proposed new designs and propose potential improvements.
• Work with engineering on a Design to Target approach in early product development planning
• Develop cost targets for mechanical engine parts (Castings, Stamped parts, Extrusions, and injection molded) based on information ranging from sample parts, CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Develop cost targets for electrical engine parts (Harness, PCB, PCB assemblies, DC motors, Batteries) based on information ranging from schematics, CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Provide should cost analysis reports to procurement team for supplier negotiation purposes.
• Do competitive benchmarking/ teardown analysis and develop should cost models.
• Participate in VA/VE activities and generate cost reduction ideas on current production products.
• Present project cost updates along with risks and opportunities to higher management on monthly basis.

• Be a resource of cost information on assigned projects for the entire organization (upper management, marketing, sales, engineering, financial, manufacturing, etc). 
• Provide the organization with monthly cost reports and cost tracking of current product.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
• 3-5 years of industry experience
• Proficient in BDI (Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc), A-priori or a related costing software
• Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings
• Working knowledge of a Bill of Material, its development and application.
• Practical knowledge of VA/VE techniques and strong financial awareness
• Functional understanding of 3D CAD software (Creo Preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft office.
• Travel up to 10%

Position Summary

Support engineering activities such as test system programing, software updates, test program backups, fabrication, modification, troubleshooting & repair. Responsible for quality assurance and documentation. Relies on a complete understanding of electronic theory, computer skills, schematics, drawings, specification, and other documentation from engineering along with pre-established guidelines to perform job functions. Works with minimal immediate supervision. Provide training and technical leadership for other employees troubleshooting, repair & rework activities.

Your responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Performs troubleshooting, failure analysis and test of assemblies using bench-top test equipment, custom test beds, and automated test systems in compliance with quality assurance policies and methodologies
• Provide test engineering floor support to production personnel, including the maintaining, troubleshooting and repair of test system software and hardware
• Train and support test operators on test equipment, materials and processes
• Provide troubleshooting guidance and technical leadership to rework technicians and operators
• Communicate problems to Test Engineers and/or production personnel as appropriate
• Participate in continuous improvement. Recommend improvements to product flow and throughput, work sequences, test processes and debug techniques. Document as required
• Monitors production processes and test systems to decrease no defects found (NDF’s)
• Assist engineering in test system fabrication
• Maintains a clean, safe, work environment and follow all published/posted safety standards
• This position normally requires exposure to manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes/boots

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

• In-depth understands of electronic theory, both digital and analog
• Skills in computer integration, control and communication with test equipment, test system electronics, sensors, and input/output modules
• Working knowledge of programing, experience with the LabVIEW programing language a plus
• Proficient in test measurement and troubleshooting techniques on electronic assemblies/subassemblies in a manufacturing environment involving Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and EOL Test Systems
• Interpret, and comprehend schematics, mechanical drawing, data sheets, functional specifications, block diagrams, performance specifications, bill of materials (BOM) and engineering change orders (ECO)

Join our team as our Electronics Manufacturing Engineer in St. Cloud, Florida! This position is on-site.     

Position Summary

Provide technical process support in a cross-functional, collaborative, team environment for an electronics production operation which includes SMT and through-hole electronics assembly, conformal coating and encapsulation, final assembly, and test. Focus will be on production assembly operations downstream of the SMT PCB population process. This includes new product introduction and current product support. Work closely with design engineering, test engineering, production, and quality department personnel to ensure successful, timely product launches and conformance to specifications. Coordination and tracking of multiple projects are key to success.

Your primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Participate and contribute to DFM/DFA meetings with design engineering to optimize designs of electronic assemblies for manufacturability
• Define process for new product and process improvement for current product in accordance with IPC industry standards
• Review and approve engineering drawings
• Investigate and solve quality problems
• Select electronic components and select substitutes based on specifications
• Respond to engineering questions and review/approve files from PCB suppliers
• Create and revise documentation including process flow, PFMEA, control plans, detailed operator work instructions, etc.
• Document, track and report out on project status
• Train production trainers on new products and processes
• Coordinate with purchasing, production, and quality personnel to accomplish design validation builds, process validation builds and start of production
• Facilitate production equipment selection, financial justification, and implementation

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements

• Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Must be able to read and interpret electronic schematic diagrams
• Must have a deep working knowledge of electrical theory and common electronic components and their functions
• Must understand manufacturing processes commonly used in the manufacture of electronic assemblies
• Must have a personal knowledge of IPC standards and their application to electronics manufacturing
• Mastery of L.S.S. and/or lean manufacturing principles and tools is a plus
• Proficiency in the use of PADS or similar PCB design software is a plus
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.)
• Must have excellent, written and verbal communication skills in English

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field required; electrical/electronics engineering degree is preferred

• Experience in creation of documentation required for new product launch including Work Instructions, Process Flow, PFMEA, control plans, etc.

The Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer provides strategic and tactical support to Manufacturing by executing quality activities; such as:  advanced quality planning to support High Performance Product Development (HPPD) process, Supplier development activities, Corrective Actions, and reporting to maintain and improve customer satisfaction, eliminate errors and improve efficiency.  As a result, the Procurement Team depends on the Sr. Supplier Quality Engineer to be fully engaged with the global supply base to ensure that all direct purchased materials meet all performance specification requirements and do so over time to eliminate line downs, recalls, or other quality failures resulting in customer dissatisfaction.

Tactical Supplier Quality:  15%

Independently, and in collaboration with assigned suppliers within the global supply base, process and execute quality activities.  Maintain effective business communications/relationships with suppliers and internal customers to understand any quality impacts to production to proactively disseminate relevant information to all stakeholders and meet customer expectations and business requirements.  

Factory Support:  20%
