ROLE SUMMARY

The purpose of the Senior Director of Clinical Research role is to coordinate and lead the development of first in man (FIH), proof of mechanism (POM), proof of clinical activity (SoCA) and proof of concept (PoC) and dose ranging studies for novel biological and small molecule therapies in Neurology focused programs. 

• The Senior Director of Clinical Research will be responsible for the Phase 2, PoM and SoCA trial designs and implementation of the study in collaboration with Pfizer development operations and the project team to meet enrollment and study delivery timelines.  The clinical study lead will be the primary liaison for investigators who have enrollment or extraordinary protocol issues that require escalation and may need to conduct study site visits to ensure timely delivery of the study.
• The individual will be involved with a focus on clinical drug activities from discovery research through PoM, SoCA and PoC studies. They will be a key member on project teams to collaborate with Early Clinical Development (ECD) and ensure seamless transition of the new asset to the Pfizer Global Product Development (GPD) for Ph3 development.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Director of Clinical Research will develop a disease specific global network of potential investigators and key opinion leaders (KoL) for the new therapeutic before PoM, SoCA or POC trial conception to assist in trial design, as well as management and recruitment of study, analysis, interpretation and presentation of results. Design PoM, SoCA or POC studies in consultation with KOLs and Pfizer project team members (Stats, Clin Pharm, Regulatory, Operations, etc.).

• Develop the primary and secondary endpoints for efficacy and safety and contribute to the precision medicine and biomarker strategy as well as to the biostatistics analytic plan that is aligned with the transition target product profile.

The successful candidate will play an integral role across our oncology research groups, overseeing the development of relevant in vivo animal and cell models, and the design and execution of pharmacology studies to propel our pre-clinical research and early development oncology pipeline in addition to Translational initiatives, such as in vivo combination evaluations. • Lead and direct a range of internal pulmonary therapeutic research projects.  Define objectives for research projects and ensure high-quality execution of these projects, including oversight of assays, study designs, and data
• Advance pulmonary therapeutic research projects into early development
• Oversee and manage relationships with external partners and collaborators.  Serve as Program Lead for external collaboration, effectively managing a large cross-functional internal team and working closely with external stakeholders to scientifically direct collaborations

• Ph.D. in pulmonary pharmacology, respiratory medicine, or related field with 12 years of relevant experience in pulmonary research in industry setting

We are seeking to appoint a self-motivated and innovative individual to the role of Deputy Director, Healthcare Public Health (DD HCPH) in the new NHS PH Directorate in the East of England.
The PH Directorate aims to provide strategic leadership, oversight, coherent support, and delivery across a broad range of PH functions across multiple teams – Screening & Immunization, Health & Justice, Health Equity, Specialised commissioning, dental public health and population health evidence and intelligence.

The DD-HCPH will be expected to provide strong professional leadership across the broad range of the directorate’s functions, have an operational responsibility for the provision of safe and effective healthcare public health advice and support, and line management of the healthcare public health team.





As a Deputy Director in Healthcare Public Health the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting staff across the Public Directorate in the East of England to manage the performance of the Healthcare Public Health team and practitioners.
The Deputy Director for Healthcare Public Health provides local leadership of the NHS healthcare public health system, on behalf of the Regional Director. The post holder has day-to-day operational responsibility for the provision of an effective healthcare public health system which delivers to high quality standards and is responsive to the needs of the local community and partners in the local public health systems.

The Deputy Director will support the Regional Director of Public Health in the strategic oversight of NHS’s contribution to improving and protecting the public’s health and reducing health inequalities in the locality. The Deputy Director will support the Regional Director in working with partners to build and develop the local public health system through the provision of expert advice and insight and their operational responsibility for the delivery of the healthcare public health service.

All Deputy Directors will work in a networked way across regions to support the regional role of adviser to NHS England and contribute to national work on developing a comprehensive healthcare public health system with NHSE sub regional teams.

The post holder will oversee, coordinate and deliver high quality professional PH input, support and advice to the NHS England at Regional level to drive improvements in outcomes and reduction in health inequalities across the population in a way that is cost effective to support NHS England’s sub regional team including public health advice to support:


• Overall strategy for improving population health at a local level
• The strategy for implementing the 5 year forward view (5YFV)
• Direct commissioning responsibilities for primary care (including medical services; Ophthalmic services; community pharmaceutical services etc.)
• Public health service commitments defined through the Section 7a agreement;
• Quality and efficiency programme QIPP, and its ‘Commissioning and Pathways’; ‘Provider Efficiency’; and ‘System Enablers’ national work streams to ensure cost effectiveness across primary, secondary and tertiary health services and care
• You will identify future challenges to the public’s health and wellbeing and act as a professional advisor for NHSE and local CCGs (in support of Directors of Public Health) on all matters related to healthcare public health.
• You will work effectively and promote good relationships between NHSE, local authorities, ICB’s, OHID and UKHSA.
• Represent the Public Health Directorate at meetings relating to the performance of HCPH practitioners
• Input into the development and monitoring of performance improvement action plans for practitioners
• Attend and provide expert clinical advice to the regulatory Panel Meetings
• Ensure that any new legislation, NICE requirements and NHS regulations and guidance are implemented appropriately.
• Participate in peer review of individual performance at least once per year.
• Coordinate needs assessment and defining of priorities to ensure population health improvement is achieved within available resources
• Implementation of the 5YFV
• Support commissioning and commissioning decisions in providing an evidence-based rationale in order to secure delivery
• Support commissioning approaches for the whole pathway throughout the life cycle, with an emphasis on prevention (including self care)
• Optimising value for the NHS to provide cost effective, evidence based solutions through health economics advice
• Maintaining and enhancing quality, improving outcomes and equity of access throughout the domains of the outcomes framework
• Supporting patient and public engagement through insight and community approaches.

In addition to in-depth understanding of public health, the DD-HCPH will be expected to have a highly demonstrable skills in building and enhancing effective collaboration, integration, and partnership – within and across teams, partners, and stakeholders.

Salary Progression
Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 9 with a full-time starting salary of £99,891, with a pay step increase after 5 years’ service.

These salaries are offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and the HEE Pay Progression Policy and are subject to annual cost of living review.
