Wrexham University is looking to appoint Research Fellow in Composite Materials Engineering. Initially this role will be located in the Advanced Composites Training and Development Centre, a joint activity with Airbus at the site in Hawarden where there is a state of the art composites facility. The university has secured funding through the North Wales Growth Deal for a new facility, the Enterprise Engineering and Optics Centre on the Plas Coch main site in Wrexham and the building programme is well advanced. The role will transfer to a purpose built facility within this building when it is completed.

The fellow will perform and lead high quality collaborative research, working both independently and as part of the research team and wider academic community to achieve the project goals. They will act as a research leader at the University, develop research objectives, projects and proposals. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

The facilities at present include an extensive array of thermal characterisation, SEM and FTIR microscopy as well as impact and mechanical testing. There is an array of microwave and radio frequency equipment reflecting the specialism of microwave curing for low carbon, fast cycle time processing of composites.

As an Industry focused institution, the University seeks to improve Graduate Outcomes and to ensure that all students have the opportunity to engage with Work-related learning opportunities within their studies.

This temporary role of Work-related learning officer will be based within a dedicated work-related learning unit (WRL unit) who provide appropriate support to academic colleagues, external WRL providers and students (both pre, during and post placement) in the organisation, management and recording of work-related learning provision across the University ensuring a standardised approach and enhancing student experience.

The University is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work within Cyfiawnder: The Social Inclusion Research Institute. Following the Institute’s positive outcomes from the Research Excellence Framework 2021 this role is key to future research developments and the next REF in 2029.

The post holder will work with members of Cyfiawnder and liaise with teams across the University, including the Research Office. They will lead high-quality collaborative research, working both independently and as part of research teams across our academic community. You will support the Research Institute to achieve strategic research goals and foster collaboration between academics, service providers, and service users.

The post holder will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and have experience of managing research projects, undertaking high quality research, respond to funding opportunities, and develop grant applications to promote inclusion. The post holder will require excellent time management and organisation skills.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering to support the development and delivery of the curriculum which covers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate Programmes.

Applicants must have a High First Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical subject, and either have a PhD in a relevant research field or commitment to working towards one. Ideally, the post holder will hold a relevant professional membership / accreditation and be committed to further professional and academic development. A teaching qualification relevant to Higher Education will be held, or commitment to achieving one will be required. The ability to communication in Welsh is desirable.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, with proven experience of writing, collating and submitting documents and in bringing together and coordinating teams. The role is varied and challenging so you will need to be a highly self-motivated individual, who is able to work flexibly and to tight deadlines, both autonomously and as part of a team. A commitment to developing innovative teaching practice including online and the ability to engage with transnational education partners and opportunities plus prior teaching experience at postgraduate and undergraduate level is desirable.
