As a Social Scientist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Provides leadership and expert advice on conservation social science in addressing the human dimensions of wildlife and other natural resource conservation.
• Brings innovative social science approaches and supports the development of strategies and activities aimed at achieving improved conservation outcomes for regional, Program, and Service priorities.
• Represents program in agency-wide strategic planning for mainstreaming social science in conservation planning, implementation and evaluation as standard practice in the Service.
• Assists work unit and program in building capacity and integrating social science to better understand conservation issues and priorities, and, in turn, develop and implement more effective conservation policies and actions.
• Communicates formally (group presentations, webinars, technical write-ups) and informally (one-on-one discussion, less technical blogs for wider audiences) on the use of conservation social science tools, resources, and research to address natural resources management challenges/questions and/or to increase conservation knowledge of laypersons.

• Serves as Army Community Service (ACS) Multi-Functional Specialist at the installation level.
• Provides comprehensive and responsive ACS services to the population to include client intake, information and referral, crisis intervention, life skills, and transition service.
• Provides individual and Family consultation services, education, referrals and followup.
• Designs, develops and manages a variety of educational forums and briefings.
• Identifies, advises and consults with leaders on positive sustainable efforts that foster an environment of trust and responsiveness to various organizational quality of life issues.

• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Maintains involvement with the Rabies Project and the Mesocarnivore Genetic Archive to help understand the evolution of wildlife rabies and mesocarnivore populations in North America.
• Develops methodologies to assign emerging wildlife rabies cases to population or region of origin.
• Coordinates submission, receipt, and management of hair, blood, and tissue samples from mesocarnivores that are collected from across North America for the Mesocarnivore Genetic Archive.
• Develops standards for loaning of samples to other research institutions/individuals.
• Archives samples and the maintenance and disbursement of supplies and sampling strategy to field crews collecting mesocarnivore samples.
• Gathers and analyzes relevant genetic data from the archive; using sophisticated genetic statistical techniques, technologies, and equipment for research.
• Provide technical direction and instruction to temporary employees, volunteers, students, etc., particularly when conducting laboratory studies.
• Procure equipment and supplies necessary to conduct studies and manage genetic archive. Manage budget assigned to duties.
• Prepare brief technical reports describing study progress, present at professional conferences and to non-technical audiences, and write peer-review publications.

• Responsible for developing and accomplishing fire prevention inspections and developing an education program in assigned areas of responsibility at the installation.
• Conducts physical inspections of large, complex, and highly fire prone post and range facilities including mission related facilities.
• Determines potential fire hazards, existing fire hazards, and works with operating officials, project officers, etc., to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the hazards.
• Incumbent inspect fire protection systems that include automatic heat detection, automatic smoke detection, and dry chemical extinguishers, wet pipe sprinklers, dry pipe sprinklers, pre-action sprinklers, and deluge systems.

• Provides basic personal care to patients; obtain and records physiological measurements (chief complaint, vital signs, and to screen for tobacco use, domestic violence, and other required screening questions .

• Serve as Supervisory Training Support Specialist Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
