As a Front Line Manager you will:

Starting at $86,962 Per Year (IR 6)

• Remodeling, repairing, and installing items such as framework, floor joist, rafters, roof sheathing, sub-flooring, decking, framing for doors, windows using a variety of materials, wood, timbers, beams, plywood, particle board, sheet rock, paneling tile, etc.
• Install partitions, doors, windows, shelving, counters, and cabinets.
• Measure, cut, and install woodwork using on-site measurements, verbal directions, or from simple drawings and specifications. Appearance will normally be of a nature where a wider range of tolerance is acceptable and falls within a set limit or requiring less than full journeyman skills.
• Perform loading, unloading, and material inventory.
• Use a wide variety of tools associated with the carpentry trade: hand saws, both cross-cut and rip blade, power circular saws, table saws, radial arm saws, power and hand drills, hand planers, and power planers.
• Operate inboard and outboard motor boats up to 24 feet in length.

Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote, and isolated island in the northwestern corner of Lake Superior. With numerous lakes and native wildlife such as moose and wolves, the park offers a superb setting for recreational opportunities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, camping, fishing, hiking, and more. Isle Royale is located approximately 70 miles north of the park's administrative headquarters in Houghton, MI. The incumbent will be duty stationed on the island and occupy government quarters. Rent will be paid by the incumbent based on OMB Circular 45 guidelines. Isle Royale is 99% federally designated Wilderness with no roads, few telephones, no cellular coverage, limited amenities, and limited opportunity to travel to the mainland. The primary mode of travel throughout the island is by boat or hiking. Internet access for personal business on government computers is permitted during non-business hours. Government provided Wi-Fi is also available at most duty stations. Groceries and other supplies are delivered weekly or bi-weekly depending on incumbent's specific duty station on the island. To protect Isle Royale's fauna from disease and other maladies, pets are prohibited.

The typical seasonal period for Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park is May-November. Anticipated Enter on Duty date would be May/June.

Major Duties:

• removes nonnative fish from alpine lakes;
• completes visual encounter surveys for amphibians and reptiles;
• sets, cleans and repairs gill nets;
• electro-fishes in streams;
• conducts fish, amphibian, and reptile surveys;
• collects field data;
• kills nonnative fish; handles dead fish;
• follows detailed protocols;
• records environmental parameters; using topographic maps, compass, and/or global positioning systems (GPS) for navigation;
• provides an overview of the project to park visitors.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., packs and equipment up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.

Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Field work includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, pesticides, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals. Laboratory work may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Air Quality: Poor air quality afflicts Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, especially during summer months - generally May to October. High ozone levels may be the most harmful pollutant here. This position is located within the park boundary in Gardiner, MT. five miles north of Park Headquarters/Mammoth Hot Springs, WY where basic amenities are available (small grocery store, K-12 school, restaurants, motels, etc.). Full-service amenities are available 60 miles north in Livingston, MT and 90 miles northwest in Bozeman, MT. A small medical clinic is located at Mammoth Hot Springs. Temperatures in this area of the park vary from 70-90+ degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to sub-zero in the winter.

The North Entrance to the Northeast Entrance is the only road open to wheeled vehicles all year. Year-round visitation is steadily trending toward significant increases in autumn, winter, and spring. Mammoth Hot Springs is the only year-round, NPS visitor services operation in the park. Albright Visitor Center is open 364 days per year and currently closed Thanksgiving.
