SSEN are looking to hire an LV/HV Electrical Lead Construction Fitter to be based in any location in our Southern region.

The key responsibilities will include:

- Working in a team responsible for constructing electrical apparatus within substations on the electricity distribution network from 11kV up to 132kV.

- Installation of fixed relays onto existing relay panels. Installation and commissioning of CT Metering apparatus.

- Act as an ambassador for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks when interacting with external and internal customers to deliver world class customer service and protect the SSE brand.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience of working in live electricity substation environments from 11kV - 132kV.

- Previous experience will include working on DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable terminating and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CT's/VT's to marshalling kiosks and control panels, AC/DC wiring and replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators. The ability to read and interpret single line wiring diagrams and cable ferruling.

- A high regard for safety, especially on construction sites and CDM regulations with strong customer service skills.

- Previous electricity network operational authorisations would be extremely beneficial as would training and qualifications in scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld, working at height, confined space, asbestos, COSHH, Loler and SMSTS.

- A clean driving licence and a flexible approach to working hours and work location is a must because the role will involve extensive travel throughout our network area.

About the role
Provide property surveying services primarily across the homecare directorate but also in supporting the wider business as and when required.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our Property Team. This is a permanent role based in our Newbury offices and you'll combine a mix of home and office working to ensure a positive work / life balance.

There will be some travel required with this role across our operating area.

The role

Reporting into the Locality Manager, you'll lead the delivery of pro-active property maintenance and improvement services focusing mainly on the Empty Homes, Responsive Repairs and Planned works, whilst championing our values and customer centric vision.

Financial responsibility: Accountable for budget setting, forecasting and management across locality/s with a property activity of circa £4m+ PA. Contributing to the overall annual budgeting process
People responsibility: You will lead a number of diverse teams of circa 40+ people across your locality. These will be the delivery teams that will consist of directly employed & contracted services, support teams and consultants
Autonomy: Within the broad direction of the Locality Manager, the role is responsible for keeping our customer service promise, operational and financial goals, and maximising regulatory, legislative and industry best practice compliance

What you'll need

Demonstrable experience in a similar role, with knowledge and practical experience from within housing, property services or repairs and maintenance sector
Excellent leadership skills ideally with experience of managing a team
A reputation for driving excellent customer service and a right first time service delivery
Excellent stakeholder management skills with both internal and external stakeholders
Ability to regularly review all aspects of service delivery to ensure resources are optimised and compliant in line with current regulations
Proven financial management skills to produce management information and financial information in line with budgets and cost accruals data
Setting and maintaining high levels of safe working practices in line with Health and Safety legislation and CDM
There may be some travel required with this role across our operating area so you should have a full driving license with access to your own vehicle and be willing to travel.

The Trainee Surveyor role:

You will have responsibility from day one; your time will be split between “on the job” training and working on live projects, within one of our Products, Capital (Refurbishment works) or Painting and Decorating. You will learn all the skills you need for a bright future in our business from our experienced Surveyors and Business Managers.

How will you do this?

• Initially supporting, but developing responsibility for the financial and technical aspects of the contract, including procurement, invoicing, payments, cash flow and cost control
• You will learn to understand how to create cost efficiencies where possible, maximising value and ultimately making a profit.
• Collaboration- you will meet and work with direct labour and subcontractors, understanding their roles and expectations of the service we deliver in the response product.
• We will instil confidence in your communication, to develop and maintain relationships with your team, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and our client.
• You will learn how to procure materials and sub-contractors, through negotiation skills.
• You will support and learn how to produce monthly commercial reports, including Cost Value Reconciliations, so you become accountable for the cost and profit of the contract. 
• As your training progresses, you will be involved in tendering and winning new work and managing relationships with our key clients.

You may not identify with all the terminology, but that is where the Trainee Surveyor programme, your mentor and the business will support you in your development journey.
You will join other trainees in attending a structured modular training programme delivered by our own Academy, and you could also achieve further professional qualifications externally i.e. Level 4 Apprenticeship Quantity Surveying.

On completion of your training scheme, you will begin on the Ian Williams Surveyor pathway, and we are proud to say that many of our trainees have progressed to management roles within Ian Williams.

Who you are

You would describe yourself as having a logical, analytical approach, an interest in numeracy/ maths, excellent IT skills. You enjoy engaging with a wide variety of people, whether its building rapport within the team or building relations with new contacts.   

As a minimum you will need to be educated to at least A-level standard, or equivalent i.e. Level 3.  You will have achieved a Maths GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4/C or above.

You may have completed some work experience in the industry already or be completely new to it – but either way we would expect you to show passion and understanding for the work we do.
