The successful candidate will be based from home with travel to sites across UK
As the Construction Health & Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the senior management team to ensure the successful, timely, and high-quality delivery of construction projects within the Estate. This position will require you to be the go-to expert in Health and Safety (H&S), leading initiatives to ensure that every construction project is fully compliant with legal standards. Your responsibilities will include engaging across various departments within the civil service to foster a culture of safety, enhancing internal H&S capabilities, and rigorously analysing projects to identify and implement targeted safety interventions.
Ideal candidates for this role will have a minimum of five years of experience working on construction projects and will hold Chartered Membership with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Knowledge of Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act is essential to succeed in this role, as it will involve both understanding and applying these regulations to ensure that projects meet all necessary standards.
Key accountabilities:
Strategic and technical support to the Property directorate, ensuring the safe delivery of construction projects for the group
Technical support on all health and safety aspects including building safety, building regulations duty holder compliance across the Property cluster
Support training requirements and continuously promoting a positive H&S culture
Attend management meetings as required and facilitate with the presentation of health and safety reporting internally and externally to customers
Undertake a continuous improvement approach to the account, seeking to present and provide solutions and operational improvements
Business interfaces and front-line customer and stakeholder engagement at a regional and national level
Support health and safety initiatives across the prison infrastructure portfolio working on roughly £4bn of construction projects over the next five years, and beyond
Ensure health and safety risk management actions are in place and are actioned accordingly
Undertake accident investigations and ensuring all data systems are updated in relation to all aspects of health and safety concerning construction projects.
Undertake a system of inspections, monitoring and audits across the construction projects.
Effectively contribute to service level governance and operational supplier management of all construction contractors through engagement, site inspections and audits.
Skills and Experience:
Professionally recognised health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH and have CMIOSH membership with IOSH or similar or working towards).
Background in health and safety construction delivery.
A track record of addressing compliance issues and supporting health and safety across construction and facilities teams.
A minimum of 5 years' experience of the delivery of complex construction programmes across a widely varying estate.
Demonstrate significant experience in project/programme health and safety management, delivering works against challenging deadlines.
Active member of a professional engineering trade organisation / body or working towards joining one.
