Job Title:Senior Quantity Surveyor

Thorn Baker has teamed up one of the North of England's largest privately-owned construction businesses who over the past 25 years have provided commercial build, civil engineering, and affordable and private housing services to the private and public sector and are now looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team and cover two housing / residential projects in Sheffield.

Required Skills:

Minimum of a relevant HND or equivalent
Experience of working on projects within the housing / residential sector
Fully conversant with Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellentattention to detail andcommunication skills (written and telephone)
A"can do/ will do" attitudeand good time management skills

Your Responsibilities:

Preparation of Interim Valuations and Final Accounts
Procurement of sub-contractors in line with target programme and company policy requirements for competency of sub-contractors, recommendations, orders, warranties. including pre-order meetings
Contract administration of sub-contracts (including progress meetings/delay evaluation/variations/ day works /cleanup notices/damages/material waste/defects/relevant notices)
Timely and accurate assessment and payment of sub-contractors applications and issuance of payment notifications to sub-contractor, including contra charges
Final Account agreement of sub-contract accounts
Measurement of quantities both on site and from drawings
Timely and accurate evaluation of variations/provisional sum expenditure and monitoring of the same
Weekly direct labour & plant subcontractor payments
Material cost control
Accurate production of internal valuations, sub-contract liabilities and cost value reconciliations in line with the Commercial reporting timetable
Working closely with the Site Manager and rest of delivery team to monitor progress and its effect on margin and producing joint monthly preliminaries budgets
Ensuring good quality & accurate records are kept and maintained
Delay identification/notification/ in tandem with Quantity Surveying line manager
Take off & preparation of bills of quantities for estimating department for tender submissions

Thorn Baker are working with a leading, luxury care home builder who are looking for a Junior / Graduate Quantity Surveyor in South Yorkshire. They offer a full turnkey solution and take on all aspects from design and planning to build and fit out within both the public and private sectors. They pride themselves on the quality of their work, so this is a perfect opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with an eye for detail to join a company that will support you throughout your career.

This would be an excellent fit for a Quantity Surveyor currently studying and looking for their first role.

What we are looking for:

• Degree level qualification preferred but will also consider candidates currently in study.
• Experience with UK build laws and processes necessary.
• High attention to detail.
• Excellent people and communication skills
• Willing to travel to project locations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and submission of project bids.
• Conduct cost estimates and budget analysis for construction projects.
• Collaborate with project managers to track project costs, ensuring they align with budgetary constraints.
• Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier agreements.
• Conduct on-site visits to assess project progress and cost implications.
• Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation.
• Assist in the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
