The role
Day to day, you'll be responsible for preparing, developing, and substantiating Marine and Mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic test support. They are required to contribute to product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs.
- Primary deliverables are substantiation reports/designs for installation solutions; this can include development/analysis and/or verification/validation of Power and Propulsion systems, development of Auxiliary Ship Systems and/or HVAC for existing and new build/concept designs.
- Preparation and production of substantiation reports for solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements.
- Liaising with, and providing support to, design teams and other stakeholders to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including supporting design reviews.
- Develop and support innovative design solutions.
- Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
- Produce technical reports and other documentation.
- Be aware of and ensure that, health, safety and environmental requirements are implemented.
- Assist with the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs.
The role is on a permanent basis with hybrid working. Base locations can be either Bristol, Plymouth or Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer
The Mechanical Design Engineer is required to demonstrate proven experience in mechanical engineering. Although not essential, defence related design experience and demonstrable experience in CAD, FEA and CFD would be an advantage.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Ideally degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in relevant field will be considered.
