• Incumbent serves as trained and experienced member of a wildland fire module or hand crew or engine crew executing fire management activities in fire preparedness, fuels management and prevention, and fire suppression, monitoring, and post fire activities.
• Specific specialty areas of work within fire modules or crews include fire engine operation, fire management planning, fuels management, and prevention.
• Work may also include all hazard and emergency response activities.
• Work activities include gathering and considering information on weather data, topography, fuel types, and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents.
• Implements tactical directions on attacking, controlling, or mopping up fires, building or patrolling firelines, cleaning up burned areas within firelines, suppressing spot fires, felling snags or trees, and cutting brush.
• May drive and operate a wildland fire engine, positioning the engine for proper use and operation.
• Conducts tree felling and chainsaw.

• Reviews changes in new regulations and related agency/bureau policies impacting the payroll program to ensure application software is designed with the appropriate functional requirements and capabilities to ensure compliance.
• Evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of existing application software utilized in the payroll program. Makes functional design enhancements or develops new capabilities to achieve the objectives of the organization.
• Reviews the existing internal control system impacting the payroll program to determine if the controls are adequate to provide reasonable assurance of meeting component objectives efficiently and effectively and of safeguarding government resources.
• Works closely with leaders of Government and private audit teams in the evaluation of system controls and validity of data. Provides data support and analysis, as requested.

At the full performance level GS-15 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Develops complex space management strategies, multi-year plans, policy, regulations, and procedures through collaboration across organizational boundaries. Leads Departmental space management programs pertaining to the acquisition, utilization, and management and disposal of space, driving toward consistency across all bureaus/offices while remaining sensitive to diverse organizational cultures.
2. A Wildland Firefighter (GS-03) is an entry level member on a wildland fire crew. Performs assignments such as developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology; may assist in more specialized assignments such as backfire and burnout, mobile and stationary engine attack.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-04) is a trained wildland firefighter. May be assigned to carry out specialized assignments such as tree felling, backfire, and burnout operations; utilizes a variety of specialized tools, equipment and techniques while actively managing wildfires. May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-05) is a trained and experienced wildland firefighter performing all aspects of wildland and prescribed fire operations including preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding and mop-up. Gathers and considers information on weather data, topography, fuel types and fire behavior in responding to wildland fire incidents. May be required to operate light vehicles and 4X4s.
