The role
As a Senior Engineer - Design Change, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary which involves supporting Royal Navy Submarines to provide a high calibre of mechanical engineering support to the Ministry of Defence.

Day-to-day, your focus will be planning and managing design change projects across a wide variety of submarine systems which will include liaison with our customer base and our sub-contractor network to ensure we deliver high quality design changes for our customers.

• Own and deliver design change tasks within the Mechanical team, responsible for planning and identifying resource required for the timely and successful execution of tasking
• Work closely with design change sponsor to ensure their goals and requirements are met and support them on decision making for design solutions
• Attend and contribute to design reviews and platform surveys as required by the tasking
• Utilise design teams to produce design change guidance, ensuring requirements have been met, design solutions are sound and outputs are high quality
• Provide support and advice on the resolution of technical issues and the direction of technical tasks

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days onsite at Babcock Technology Centre, Bristol Business Park (North Bristol) and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Senior Engineer - Design Change

• Demonstrable experience of working within a design change engineering role within a regulated industry
• Design change management experience
• Customer relationship management experience
• Strong engineering and problem-solving acumen to ensure design requirements are understood

Qualifications for the Senior Engineer - Design Change

• Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or have relevant submarine domain engineering background or have design change management background
• Be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold or be working towards Chartered or Incorporated status or have a willingness to work towards this as part of continuous professional development

The Opportunity...

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, oversees the design (basic design) and the realisation (studies, procurement, erection, testing and commissioning) of nuclear islands for new projects.

EPR-E is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.

We are currently seeking a junior to mid-grade engineer to join our esteemed piping design team.

As a Piping Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in the detailed design of a 300km piping network for the Nuclear Island, overseeing the process from the outset to fabrication and erection on site. Your contributions will be integral to our Open Point and UK Design Change management processes, ensuring all impacts are accurately categorised and logged for resolution.

What you’ll be doing…


- Ensuring timely delivery of piping work packages and resolve issues blocking design maturity to support HPC installation schedule.
- Participating in the CTS delivery process, including kick-off meetings and documentation delivery.
- Overseeing piping and support design, including modelling in the 3D model.
- Preparing CAD tasks for designers in tracker and monitor completion.
- Leading troubleshooting investigations for emergent design issues.
- Interfacing with other departments to facilitate issue closure and ensuring adherence to internal procedures and standards.
- Maintaining high-quality design in the PDMS model and proposing technical solutions for design issues.

The role

Candidate with experience in providing design and build services to a customer for a prototype electrical vertical take-off/landing aircraft.
The Design engineer along with a team is required to be provided through a capacity offload solution to prepare composite and metallic structure detail and assembly definitions.
The role requires to delivery professional design engineering services per week for the stated duration of this engagement providing design, and design checking capability.
