Responsibilities

• Understand client requirements/output specs
• Ensure pricing assumptions are consistent with the development of the design - with Pre construction manager
• Monitors design progress and ensures the accuracy and completeness of design variables at each stage of the design development process (ITN Phase / PB Phase / Construction Phase)
• Ensures that all resources for coordination are appointed
• Prepare monthly report to Design Leads
• Responsible for design compliance, build ability, efficiency of design and supporting the bid process.
• Responsible to lead the sign off of documents to the correct status
• Prepares and validates the Design Management Plan (DMP)
• Prepares the Project`s Document Management Procedure in accordance with TEC.CMP.05.
• Endorses Consultants` DMPs
• Defines consultant values and authorizes appointed consultants payments
• Defines designer`s objectives: time, details, ratios, coordination`s, etc.
• Manage the flow of design information and the Document Control
• Support the procurement and commercial teams
• Representing the company at Client/User/Local Authority and other stakeholder meetings
• Co-ordinate the input from the Technical Department necessary to develop a robust design
• Manage the Environmental Certification Process i.e. BREEAM / CFSH
• Manage (preconstruction) or participate (construction) the Design Transfer from preconstruction to construction

The role
As a Marine Structures Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early-stage design as well as supporting the bidding process. This role will provide you with the opportunity to deliver complex structural solutions within an exciting, interesting team environment. Each week will provide you with new challenges that will test your skills and knowledge.

Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for is responsible for preparing, developing and substantiating marine and structural designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic test support. You will contribute to product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs.

Primary deliverables:

• Substantiation reports/designs for installation solutions;
• Preparation and production of substantiation reports for solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements.
• Liaising with design teams and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs, including supporting design reviews.
• Develop and support innovative design solutions.
• Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
• Produce technical reports and other documentation.

Essential experience of the Marine Structures Design Engineer:

• Proven structural design experience from a highly regulated industry

We are a looking for a Structural Design Engineer with a minimum background of 2 years experience in building structures design, for a permanent position working on residential and commercial projects in the UK.

As a Structural Design Engineer you will be working on a range of residential, commercial and educational projects and should be able to demonstrate experience in completing structural surveys, inspections and design work on projects in these sectors.

To be suitable for the Structural Design Engineer post you must have a minimum of 2 years previous experience working to British Standards and Eurocodes following a Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a UK based university. (Candidates with an additional Masters degree in these subjects also from a UK based University would be desirable).

Proficiency in these design standards and an educational background here in the UK are requested in order to comply with UK legislation on the required projects, and you must have excellent written technical English with demonstrable experience in producing accurate reports.

Structural Analysis skills in all common design materials is essential, including steel, concrete, timber and masonry. You will also need proficiency in relevant design engineering software which could include Tekla, TEDDS and Revit in addition to AutoCAD.

Should you get to interview stage for this role there will be a test involving hand calculations, so you will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to perform standard calculations to demonstrate a skill in this area.

In order to be able to attend client meetings and site visits, it is desirable that you have a driving licence and your own vehicle for the role.

The team delivers hydrodynamic testing and design consultancy services. Hydrodynamic problem solving forms a significant part of the project work within group - identifying a methodology for solving a client's hydrodynamic issues, mathematically or through model testing.

The role requires an excellent understanding of Naval Architecture principles and the ability to use that knowledge together with sound engineering judgement to solve our customer's important problems. In particular, knowledge of the methods and tools used within hydrodynamic design and assessment is desirable. Practicing knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics is strongly desired.

Day-to-day, you will:

• Work collaboratively with customers and colleagues to deliver ensure the customers' requirements are and providing innovative solutions to customers' problems.
• Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. This will include being customer facing and supervision of others.
• Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead.
• Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the NAME Group.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week, based at our Bristol Business Park site, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Essential experience of the Naval Architect

• The Naval Architect should have experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Responcibilties

Tender Stage - Pre Contract

• Review the Tender Information including the Employer's Information Requirements and any existing Design Team appointments and determine the scope and extent of all remaining design work, prior to the Tender Start-up meeting
• Verify that the existing Tender (design) Information is compliant, coordinated, affordable (within the existing budget) and buildable prior to the Tender Settlement meeting
• Determine, in conjunction with the bid team, the strategy for the completion of all remaining design work
• Assess / audit all novated Design Team members and if applicable negotiate any additional services
• Prepare and issue fee enquiries for supplementary Design Team members
• Select and informally appoint supplementary Design Team members for both Pre and Post Contract Stages
• Prepare and issue fee enquiries for any additional survey work and or reports
• Produce and agree the Tender Stage Design Programme and Design Deliverables with the primary, secondary and specialist subcontract designers and monitor / report on progress
• Produce and agree the Project Stage 'draft' Design Programme, Design Deliverables and Specialist sub-contractor Procurement Schedule
• Establish a Common Data Environment (CDE)

  • Produce and agree the Project Stage Design Programme and associated Design Deliverables with the primary, secondary and specialist subcontract designers and monitor / report on progress
  • Produce and agree the Project Stage Specialist sub-contractor Procurement Schedule and Installation/Commission Programme
  • Monitor / report on progress to ensure overall progress against programme is maintained
• Establish and agree the project Common Data Environment (CDE), the project file structure, virtual file links, email file links, security rights, work flows and voting rights
• Establish the frequency and content for all design coordination workshops and progress meetings
• Produce the project specific Design Management Plan (DMP) and BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and monitor compliance
• Close out design assumptions, design opportunities (VE), design risks (HSE/CDM) made during the early stages of the design and or tender process
• Verify that all new design documentation is compliant, coordinated, affordable and buildable on a weekly basis in accordance with the DMP

The role
As a Senior Naval Architect, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early-stage design as well as supporting the bidding process. Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating marine designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic test support.
