About the role - Design Manager

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will advise and assist the technical team in management and planning activities.

Duties & responsibilities for the Design Manager:

• Providing technical advice and actioning a range of queries, you will deal with site construction issues and have input to land viabilities.
• You will also undertake the production, review and approval of Site layouts, house type working drawings, construction details, Deed Plans and Master Deeds.
• Reviewing technical and legal reports, you will assist in the review of Management Charges, providing advice to others, including Senior Management.
• Liaise with Consultants, Contractors, Local Authority and Planning Officers
• Prepare contract documents
• Produce and issue drawing
• Update our senior management team on house type and detail changes
• Prepare and collate details for the discharge of planning conditions

Requirements for the Design Manager:

The Role

Main Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designed products are fit for purpose, meet relevant Aerospace Standards/Approvals and can be manufactured within designated Manufacturing parameters

• Alongside the Engineering Manager, provide technical advice and guidance to both design and manufacturing teams with regards to technical compliance and product safety

• Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality and/or performance
• Participate in regular cross-functional meetings to address challenges and drive improvements and innovation
• Work closely with Quality and Senior Management to ensure relevant Design Certifications and Approvals are maintained including the implementation of Technical Changes and Revisions as required / appropriate

Key Experience Requirements:

• Ideally educated to Degree level in a technical discipline (Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar), with a strong understanding of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic disciplines and "how things work"
• Previous Experience working within Aerospace Design & Manufacturing environments
• The ability to work across a multi-disciplinary team, including Design, Quality and Manufacturing
• In-depth understanding of aerospace industry standards, regulations and best practices, including TSO and DO-160
• Demonstrable ability to implement process improvements and drive best practice
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to "think outside of the box"

The Role

Qualities Required

You will ideally have at least 2 years’ practitioner experience with some experience of supervising/managing staff and resources and hold or be working towards a relevant health or social care qualification (Degree or NVQ Level 4/5). You must be well organised, professional and credible with colleagues from the multi-disciplinary team. You will be able to demonstrate leadership ability and management competencies. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential as is the ability to organise your own time effectively and manage professional relationships. A commitment to your own continuous professional development is essential.
