This position is in our Outpatient Surgery Center
Must be actively enrolled in a Certified Surgical Technologist program with successful completion of 1st year of the program.
Job Description:
This is a position for a student Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) who has completed their first year in a CST program. The CST Interns assists physician as scrub person according to prescribed standards under the direct supervision of the CST or trained RN Scrub with the primary goal of focusing on learning opportunities and extending the student experience. (Direct supervision means that the CST or RN is immediately available to continually direct, inspect, and coordinate firsthand care provided by the CST Intern.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Provides assistance to the physician and surgical team by passing instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and maintains aseptic integrity during the surgical procedure under the direct supervision of the CST or trained RN Scrub. Organizes sterile field for use and assists with surgical counts.
2. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of established protocols, instrumentation, and equipment operation under direct supervision of a CST or trained RN Scrub including surgical counts, donning surgical attire, aseptic technique, universal protocol, and prepping. Intern does not initiate or participate in surgical counts unless CST or trained RN Scrub is present.
3. Practices sterile technique, body substance isolation and infection control precautions as needed, utilizing personal protective equipment. Assists team members during entry to sterile field.
4. Prepares case carts, opens sterile supplies, pulls medications and suture for cases, assists in the cleaning and restocking of the surgical suites. May prepare medications under the direct supervision of a RN.
5. Assists with draping operative site at beginning of procedure and may secure dressings on the patient incision at the end of the procedure, under the direct supervision of a CST or trained RN Scrub.
6. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.
High school diploma or equivalency + Actively enrolled in a Certified Surgical Technologist program with successful completion of 1st year of CST program
One year of experience in a healthcare environment
License and Certifications:
Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Category 1 - Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.
