We are looking for an experienced Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join our Scotland Ecology Team, to work on an exciting infrastructure project. This is primarily a site-based post on Isle of Harris, involving detailed ecological surveys, protected species licencing and reporting. At RPS, our Ecology Team work on a variety of projects, from resolving bat issues in individual homes to delivering all ecological surveys for large-scale complex commercial developments including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP). We undertake all aspects of ecological consultancy and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and statutory requirements.
We also have other EcoW opportunities, both short-term contract and permanent roles so we would be keen to hear from candidates interested in similar roles elsewhere in Scotland. Plus also for HS2 Phase 2, where a Great Crested Newt licence will be a pre-requisite.
What you’ll be doing:
· Monitoring protected species and retained habitats on site
· Input and monitoring of compliance with relevant management plans e.g., Construction Environment Management Plan and Peat Management Plan
· Liaison with construction site staff daily, through provision of toolbox talks, attendance at site liaison meetings, and daily provide constructive advice on ecological protection measures and solutions
· Maintaining records of ecological sensitivities, issues requiring action and advice provided, to ensure mitigation and legal requirements are met
· Monitoring and advising on, pollution prevention measures
Skills and experience required
· Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or significant on the job experience
· Experience of applying ecological principles to construction projects and working knowledge of surveying and reporting
· Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accreditation
· Solid experience of working on Infrastructure or large construction sites, preferably in Scotland
· Competence in survey and mitigation design for protected species
· A comprehensive understanding of SEPA CAR Regulations, relevant guidance and environmental legislation
· Competency with standard MS Office applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (GIS skills desirable)
