This position is located within an Army National Guard (ARNG), Garrison Training Center (GTC), Range Operations Section. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Range Operations Specialist and is responsible for ensuring safe and overall compliance with appropriate regulations and safety requirements. The incumbent plans, coordinates, and assists the Range Operations Officer in directing operations for the Range and Training Area (RTA).

Description of Duties:

1. Implements range operations functions directly related to the safe and efficient utilization of the Range and Training Area (RTA) complex during live fire and live training operations on multiple ranges, maneuver training area, and live training facilities. Performs range safety functions to include on-site inspections of ranges and training areas, safety pre-briefing to using military and civilian agencies, investigation of range accidents/incidents, and providing technical guidance and advice to supervisors, range safety officers, and unit personnel.

2. Inspects and enforces safe weapons firing and handling, ammunition handling and accountability, safe troop movement, tactical training safety, target emplacement, environmental compliance, and installation and maintenance of warning signs/roadblocks and barriers preventing access to permanent and temporary impact areas and designated hazard areas.

4. Coordinates requests for air and ground medical evacuation for injured personnel in the Range and Training Area (RTA) complex. Investigates incidents that occur in the RTA complex as required. Provides RTA complex users with current range safety information regarding the safe conduct and utilization of ranges that includes, training restrictions and procedures for fire prevention, ammunition security measures, and controlled airspace impacts to live fire activities. 5. Recommends measures to correct deficiencies or eliminate hazards when detected on ranges, maneuver training areas, or live training facilities; before, during, or after live training operations. This position is located in an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or an Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA). The purpose of the position is to assist a higher grade mechanic in accomplishing maintenance and repair of both fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

Description of Duties:

(1) Accomplishes a variety of repairs on military aircraft. Repair work includes removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts, accessories and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, and gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines, worn cable pulleys, frayed sparkplug cables, and burned-out landing lights. Makes adjustments and settings such as cable tension, seat travel and other connections. Locates worn, dirty or poorly adjusted parts or components through visual check.
