Wali Supermarket & Butcher is looking for skilled Butcher is responsible for preparing, cutting, and selling meat products to customers. The applicants must have strong knowledge of meat cuts, food safety regulations, and customer service. The role involves both manual labour and customer-facing tasks.
Key Responsibilities
o Slaughter, cut, trim, and debone meat from various animals, including beef, pork, lamb, and poultry.
o Portion meat into standard cuts, such as steaks, chops, or roasts, according to customer specifications.
o Ensure the proper storage of raw meats to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
o Greet customers, take orders, and provide expert advice on meat selection and cooking methods.
o Weigh and package meat products for customers.
o Handle special customer requests, such as custom cuts or specific preparation.
o Monitor stock levels of meat and related products.
o Ensure that stock is rotated and adhere to FIFO (first in, first out) principles to minimize waste.
o Order meat and supplies from wholesalers or suppliers as required.
o Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including temperature controls, sanitation, and cleanliness of work areas.
o Clean and sanitize tools, equipment, and work surfaces regularly.
o Handle hazardous materials (e.g., sharp knives, machines) with care to avoid injury.
o Use various tools and machines, such as meat grinders, slicers, and saws, to process and prepare products.
o Pack prepared products, ensuring proper labeling and packaging for retail or wholesale sale.
o Inspect the quality of meat, checking for freshness, color, and texture.
o Dispose of or return unsatisfactory products to suppliers.
o Maintain records of sales and customer orders.
o Operate the cash register, process payments, and handle customer inquiries.
Skills and Qualifications Needed
• Expertise in various cuts of meat and their best uses in cooking with at least 3 years of experience as Butcher.
• Applicants may hold a Certificate III in Meat Processing but qualification is not mandatory.
• Precision in handling knives and meat processing tools.
• Ability to communicate with customers, advise them on selections, and build rapport.
• The job often requires standing for long hours, lifting heavy items, and using physical strength to cut and process meat.
• A thorough understanding of hygiene, food handling, and storage practices to ensure meat quality and customer safety.
Salary: $65000 to $85000 per Annum + Superannuation
