The Program Specialist - Health Science Supervisor duties include, but are not limited to:

• Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of Radiology Service program operations at the Cleveland VA Medical Center and Parma CBOC facilities.
• Coordinate programs and services extending to all Medical Center Clinical Services, encompassing Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Dental, Dermatology, Nuclear Medicine, Tele-Health Services, CBOCs, outpatient clinics (including Eye Clinic and Vascular Surgery), and inpatient radiologic support, among others.
• Coordinate and support VISN level programs for data center image archiving.
• Support and evaluate current Medicom Image Exchange, various site-to-site connections between community partners, connectivity between tele-radiology providers, and future image exchange capabilities with Cerner implementation.
• Play a pivotal role in overseeing tele-radiology operations of contracted providers, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective integration with the national teleradiology program.
• Responsible for the overall coordination of a multidisciplinary team making sure each team member does their part in keeping imaging informatics operating smoothly for the VANEOHS.
• Oversite of management of radiologist workstations, both at the main medical center, CBOCs, and radiologist homes with a focus on
• providing comprehensive support, maintenance coordination, and pulling performance reports to ensure the effective functionality of these workstations.
• Serve as a project manager on multimillion-dollar imaging technology contracts, overseeing the successful implementation, maintenance, and upgrades of cutting-edge imaging systems. The employee will review the existing equipment and make recommendations on upgrading and/or replacing.
• Provide support for VISN 10 Imaging Informatics projects, analysis and cost-studies to determine budget impact and a realistic approach to modernize to the most current technologies.

The Role and Department

The Department of Biosciences is composed of 62 academic staff and research fellows; around 50 research and technical support staff; over 90 Research Postgraduate students and over 500 Single Honours undergraduate students, and also teaches students from the Natural Sciences programme. The Department is committed to an ethos of research-led teaching at both BSc and MBiol levels, and was ranked 5th in the UK for Biological Sciences Departments in the Complete University Guide 2024.

Our basic science underpins applications across each-and-every sector of the bio-economy, including Biotechnology, Ecology and Agritechnology. As a PDRA on this project, the successful applicant will be required to develop relative sea-level reconstructions over the past few hundred years from salt-marshes in Greenland using diatoms as the main proxy, alongside XRF and other stratigraphic methods. These reconstructions will be compared to relative sea-level predictions from new Greenland-wide models of ice sheet change developed by collaborators on the project from Lincoln and Northumbria Universities. The main responsibilities will be to develop new modern and fossil diatom datasets from Greenland saltmarshes and statistical and chronological models that allow quantitative relative sea-level reconstructions from sites around the west coast of Greenland. A further responsibility will be to write applications for radiocarbon dating support, to prepare data, figures and text for publication and to communicate the interim and final findings of the research at collaborator workshops and international science meetings.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in developing relative sea-level reconstructions using diatom data and application of quantitative methods of RSL reconstruction. Previous experience working in salt-marshes would be an advantage.
