MAJOR DUTIES:

• perform a variety of duties as a maintenance mechanic on buildings and utilities using journeyman skills in Sheetmetal, iron, wood crafting, masonry, glazing and painting some of these are historic building and utilities.
• Work with the building and utilities in constructing new, alter or repair, rehabilitate or modify existing historic items such as windows, doors, posts, beams, stairways, railings interior and exterior moldings siding, rafters, roofing, etc.
• May serve as 'Project Inspector' on later Historic Preservation Project contracts.
• Operates trucks up to 20,000 GVW on public roads.
• Operates and performs preventive maintenance on portable generators, and portable water pumps.
• Work at heights up to 130'.
• Assists other historic structure teams in work duties, provides general information to public and may perform custodial services when needed.

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the institution buildings and structures, through the supervision of inmate workers.

Supervises and trains inmate workers in various phases associated with the construction, repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings and related structures, grounds, fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, cement work, painting, welding, roofing, and other related trades.

Responsible for design and development of plans, specifications and blueprint drawings.

Responsible for adhering to safety procedures for hazardous material handling, OSHA requirements, and environmental issues.

Responsible for the ordering and purchasing of all material/equipment needed to perform assigned projects.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER - Title 32, WG-5801-8, you will perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. May assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties.

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC - Title 32, WG-5801-10, you willperform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.

As a AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR - Title 32, GS-1101-11, you will have responsibility for the overall maintenance effort on the flightline to include work operations performed by two or more distinct organizational units and controlled by a number of separate supervisors. The position does not have supervisory duties or responsibilities.

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER - Title 32, WL-5801-10, you will serve as a working leader of three or more Surface Maintenance Mechanics, WG-5801-10. Performs mechanic duties involving maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. Provides technical subordinate guidance and group leadership to employees on the team.

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC - Title 32, WG-5801-10, you will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, inspect, and/or overhaul a variety of complex combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment having complicated mechanical and non-mechanical systems with a variety of interconnected systems. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees.

As a AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR - Title 32, WS-8801-14, you will provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities within one of four major work functions (Aircraft Section, Specialist Section, Weapons Section, and the Support Section of the Sortie Support Flight. All four work functions are organized with a number of subordinate supervisors due to the scope, volume, and complexity of operations. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft, ranging from multi-purpose heavy, multi engine transports to the most modern sophisticated fighters and bombers. All aircraft are fully integrated in and are part of the Total Force Mission of the United States Air Force. Occupations supervised are somewhat similar, in that they all involve maintenance of assigned aircraft to ensure combat readiness; they are dissimilar in their organizational location, as well as the functional areas, occupational series, and the diversity and complexity of systems for which each function is responsible. The occupation and nonsupervisory grade which best reflects the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10.
