As a Personnel Security Specialist (National Security) within the Office of Management Services, some of your specific duties will include:
- Serves as the Personnel Security Specialist National Security Officer for USGS responsible for implementing all aspects of a Sensitive Compartmented Information and collateral security program for classified information.
- Implements a comprehensive security adjudication program for USGS in accordance with Security Executive Agent policy and instructions to ensure all personnel nominated for a security position are properly vetted, investigated, and adjudicated.
- Adjudicates background investigation cases, FBI fingerprint results, and other documents to identify the presence or absence of derogatory information, the impact of various kinds of derogatory information, and applying the appropriate suitability factors and/or adjudicative guidelines pertaining to suitability or national security determinations.
- Prepares all correspondence to include case summaries, letters of interrogatory, cover letters, notice of decisions, and any other correspondence as it relates to personnel security screening/adjudication actions.
- Serves as a subject matter consultant to the Branch Chief on national security personnel matters to include participating on interdisciplinary teams in the bureau, DOI, and interagency teams to support reengineering efforts, strategic planning, and personnel security measures and developing personnel security policy and guidance material.
- Administers the national security information education and awareness program for USGS to include providing initial security indoctrinations and annual refresher training to individuals holding national security clearances.
