The Opportunity:
Develop ecological understanding of viruses of methane cycling prokaryotes in peatlands. This is to be achieved using metagenomics, viromics, methane flux analysis and population dynamics modelling in collaboration with a large international team funded by Human Frontier Science Program.
This post is fixed term (36 months) and full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
Your skills and attributes for success: Relevant PhD or equivalent experience in microbial ecology, microbiology, bioinformatics, computational biology
Knowledge of microbial community ecology and interactions and an up-to-date understanding of the science of the biogeochemical cycling of elements and microbial controls
A high standard of programming skills relevant to microbial sequencing data analysis and ability to effectively manage and process large data sets
Good organisational skills and ability to work independently under appropriate supervision to a high academic standard, in addition to team-working
Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing
