The incumbent is responsible for inventory management and procurement of drug products and pharmaceutical supplies as well as all activities relative to the IV rooms for the Fargo VAHCS. They also perform the functions of a pharmacy technician.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for all ongoing inventories of drug products and pharmaceutical supplies and their procurement relative to the IV rooms.
• Utilize basic accounting and budgetary skills.
• Maintains accountability of daily purchases and coordinates receipt of delivery.
• Possess a working knowledge of all US Pharmacopeia, The Joint Commission, and VA manual storage requirements.
• Reviews drug orders, verifying amount to order and transmitting the order to the prime vendor.

Pharmacy technicians at this level are nationally certified and can work autonomously using independent judgement to perform a full range of duties. These pharmacy technicians mentor and train lower graded pharmacy technicians in the practice setting. They assist advanced/ specialized pharmacy technicians and participate in performance improvement initiatives. At this level, pharmacy technicians use independent judgement to perform the full range of duties in the pharmacy. They also function as staff pharmacy technicians in various locations of the pharmacy, including pharmacy contact centers and other non-traditional pharmacy locations, with minimal oversight.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Reads and interprets prescriptions, obtains proper medication or material in the proper strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on Pharmacy's paper or electronic copy of prescription/order.
• Prepares compounded sterile preparations inclusive of chemotherapy, IV additive solutions, and performs bulk compounding. After a final check by a pharmacist, dispenses medication in ambulatory care or discharge situations.
• Delivers medications to patient areas following established procedures and maintains the medications in a secure manner during the delivery process.
• Repackages medications for use in outpatient or inpatient pharmacy following established procedures and maintains all required documentation.
• Assists with inventory management and ordering of medicines.
• Completes monthly medication inspections as assigned.
• Collects drug use evaluation data for quality improvement purposes as required.

• After prescription/order(s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and converts the order, if necessary, so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered.
• Answers questions from pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel regarding drug distribution. Identifies basic therapeutic problems such as duplicate therapy with drugs in the same class and alerts the pharmacist to the possible need for clinical intervention.

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-7. At the GS-6 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-7. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds.

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Reviews, researches, analyzes all accounts receivable records and documentation.
• Reviews and analyzes case information, remittance statements from the third-party payer or and others and the accounts receivable record relating to the debt.
• Analyzes third-party legal bills when additional information is received, or additional claims are paid.
• Reviews and verifies the validity of request for recoupment against benefit eligibility records, insurance data; vendor data and claim payment history.
• Reviews bill of collection for accuracy against submitted documentation, vendor address, fund control point, fiscal year, fund appropriation, claim refund payment, recoupment reason, etc.
• Validates and monitors accounts receivable transactions.
• Uses judgment and experience to reconstruct incomplete files and gather and organize information for inquiries.
• Interviews by telephone or via mail, beneficiaries and insurance representatives, to obtain sufficient information to process a case.
• Reconciles error reports and takes corrective action between different systems.
• Audits bill of collection and billing documents for error, omissions, duplications and inconsistencies.
