As the day shift/first shift Architectural Unit Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for preventive maintenance inspections, maintenance, repairs, and in-house modifications associated with the architecture at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. Architectural finishes included are masonry, drywall, roofing, doors, ceilings, flooring, partitions, painting, signage, casework, and other associated architectural systems. The afternoon supervisor, Architectural Unit may take immediate action to correct hazardous conditions which could result in personal injury to individuals and/or damage to equipment, property, or buildings.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Taking immediate action to correct hazardous conditions which could result in personal injury to individuals and/or damage to equipment, property or building.

• Provides direct supervision to scrub technicians, Medical Instrument Technicians, Supply Technician, and Health Technicians performing a variety of duties within the operating room setting at the VAAAHS. This responsibility includes development of performance standards, writing position descriptions, evaluating work performance, counseling of employees whose performance is marginal or unsatisfactory, and initiating disciplinary action when necessary.
• Receives formal grievances, resolving those that can be resolved at the first full supervisory level. Hears and resolves complaints from employees.

• Interview candidates for positions in the unit; prepares formal requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments to such positions, and other status changes, or recognition of outstanding performance of assigned employees. Responsible for yearly performance appraisals, mid-term appraisals, and competency's. Annually reviews the functional statements and the performance standards on all employees under his/her supervision.
• Determines staffing requirement based on past, present, and future workload patterns and develops the monthly schedules in conjunction with the operating room manager.
• Supports OR Educator with formal orientation, training, and evaluation programs involving the various operating room technicians. Participating in education through departmental in-services.
• Participates in the evaluation of new and established employees. Utilizes developed expertise in surgical technology and supply inventory.
• Ensures technicians are compliant with AORN and AST standards of practice as well as hospital and unit specific policies.

• Ensures that adequate quantities of existing supplies are available to meet workload demands of the OR Technicians, through a cooperative systemized process managed by "logistics."

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Special Procedure Tech provides direct care pre, intra, and post for patients undergoing Heart and/or Vascular procedures to assist physicians and delivers quality patient/family centered care. The incumbent may be required to perform IV starts, prep patients, monitor hemodynamics, operate equipment, document procedures, vascular access site management, and provide patient/family education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:   

Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive, interventional procedures. Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care. May be required to perform and record hemodynamic/physiologic wave forms and calculations. Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and all ancillary departments while consistently demonstrating the Corewell Health Standards. Perform quality assurance checks on technical equipment. Perform department skills validations. Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients in compliance with the Corewell Health Radiation Safety Department. Required to take On Call per department schedule. IR Special Procedure Techs must be able to 1st assist physicians using sterile technique, and fully participate in 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases if performed at the site. Cath Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, EKOS. EP Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize ICE, participate in device Implants, and circulate in all other EP cases.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training:

• Interventional Radiology requires completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT).

Work Experience:

• Clinical experience required through graduation of one of the above listed programs.
• 1 year of experience in EP, Cath Lab or IR is required.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• IR requires BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, RT-CV or VI within 2 years of hire.
• Cath Lab requires BLS upon hire and ACLS within time frame identified by each individual site with a maximum of 6 months.   Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification.
• EP Lab requires BLS upon hire and ACLS within time frame identified by each individual site with a maximum of 6 months. Registered RCIS/RCES.

PART TIME-NIGHTS

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs Electrocardiograms in a variety of settings, which could include outpatient, the Emergency Department, and all in-house locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:                 

• Performs EKG services according to established procedure of the hospital.
• Maintains equipment.
• Will maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate the EKG services.
• Will assist with the training of new employees, student interns, and employees of other departments.
• Will promote the department by utilizing good customer service practices.
• Performs clerical duties such as computer entry, filing, recording, and mailing and reports as needed.
• Completes all test orders in EPIC to ensure appropriate charges are processed.
• Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
• Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training: 

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Completion of EKG training, either an exclusive EKG training program or as part of other educational programs. Prior work experience that included performing EKGs may be considered as fulfillment of this requirement.

Work Experience: 

• Six months of experience as an EKG technician, preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.

Other Qualifications:

• Light typing.
• Knowledge of normal and abnormal EKG data.
