Direct Care

• Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the screening and testing program. This will include conducting assessment and evaluation interviews with patients, family and significant others to obtain pertinent information regarding the patient's history, symptoms, cognitive abilities and willingness to participate in treatment of psychological disorders.
• Psychological tests may be conducted face-to-face or using various psychological computer software packages
• Ability to use the Mental Health Assistant and the Behavioral Health Lab software to assist with the recording of psychological testing material.
• Assisting the clinical psychologists with the administration and scoring of selected tests and screening protocols in accordance with defined procedures.
• Assessing the patient's emotional function, psychosocial stress indicators and physical adjustments during treatment activities.
• Reviewing and summarizing pertinent psychosocial data for clinical psychologists assigned to PCMHI within the VATVCBHCS.
• Providing ongoing assessment and screening of patients as specified in the treatment plans and through the "watchful waiting program."
• Aid in facilitating referrals to case management and follow-up assessment of patients who require referral to more specialized Mental Health Clinics.
• Collaborating with the clinical psychologist to provide up-to-date feedback to and collaborating with members of the multidisciplinary primary care teams.
• Utilizing a computerized patient record system to record appropriate, timely and accurate clinical data in patients' medical record.

• Maintaining and operating computerized psychological assessment program and will be responsible for scheduling of patient appointments in a manner that ensures compliance with applicable performance measures.
• Monitoring testing supplies, providing nomenclature to and notifying their supervisor when it is time to reorder.
• Coordinating the Psychology Service's computerized assessment activities including both those instruments available on the DHCPand any stand-alone software.
• Assisting Primary Care Psychologists and the Chief, Psychology Service in carrying out program evaluations associated with quality assurance and quality improvement plans.
• Responsible for carrying out many specific data collection procedures including running data reports in VSSC and DataMart and providing results and data analysis to the clinical staff as directed.
• Completing other administrative tasks as needed.
• Conducting day-to-day administrative duties including responsibility for appointment management for enrolled patients, data entry, and Psychology Service, VISN 17 and Central Office performance improvement activities in support of the PCMHI Program.

• Lead housekeeping aids in the accomplishment of daily housekeeping duties to ensure cleanliness of the facility is maintained.
• Perform limited supervisory duties such as checking in/out attendance and issuing work assignments in the absence of the supervisor.

• Perform and lead team members in housekeeping duties such as cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing all patient and public restrooms.

• Interpret instructions pertaining to cleaning agents to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to floors, furniture, walls and fixtures.
• Interpret policies, procedures and instructions to properly train housekeeping aids on proper mixing and safe and economical utilization of cleaning supplies.
• Interpret specific written methods, techniques, and procedures and oral and written instructions of the supervisor.
• Follow and train team members on specific steps to operate equipment and accessory tools such as wet/dry vacuum, scrubbing machines, wall washing equipment, rug shampooer, and spray and steam cleaning devices.
• Train team members to select proper equipment to perform specific tasks.
• Make minor repairs to tools and equipment when performing daily maintenance.
• Follow proper safety techniques and procedures to ensure regular and safe functioning of the facility.
• Follow all safety regulations and practices to prevent injury to self, patients, visitors and employees, or damage to government property.
• Follow sanitation procedures and infection control principles to maintain an aseptically clean and pleasant environment for patient care activities.

• The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Participates with supervisor in planning and coordinating survey/control measures by furnishing information about the presence and extent of plant diseases and/or insects, and effect of treatments.
• Directs and/or conducts approved control and eradication measures including sanitation measures, biological controls, and the application of herbicides, insecticides, nematicide, and fungicides.
• Enforces Federal and/or State regulatory orders to restrict movement or issue certificates permitting movement of plants, plant products, and equipment into or out of regulated areas.
• Assists with inspections of routine commodities for export.
• Maintains daily records of inspection work, control measures and regulatory procedures applied; prepares reports and maps on the activities and accomplishments within the assigned area.

Incumbent performs his/her assigned shift, coordinating workflow, determining priority of examinations and ensuring workload completion. Performs a variety of radiographic examinations such as routine, difficult, and complex studies in department as well as OR and on the wards/units. Receives the patient, explains the method of procedure, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjusts accessory equipment required and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedure. In performing these duties, the incumbent is responsible for the following:

1. Performs standard radiographic examinations of the head, trunk and extremities for diagnoses of illness and injuries with minimal to no assistance. Receives patients and explains examinations to be performed, ensuring patients are properly attired and prepared before positioning patient for requested examination. Performs procedures as defined by the equipment and scope of services, possibly including GI and small bowel series, cholecystograms, cholangiograms, urethorograms, barium and air contrast enemas, myelograms, arthrograms, venograms, DXA Scans, and contrast injections as it correlates to exam. Correlates clinical history, pertinent clinical data and other ancillary diagnostic examinations to obtain radiographic images of optimal value.
2. Able to assist radiologist in fluoroscopic examinations which require incumbent to prepare and administer intravenous, oral, and/or rectal contrast media. Fluoroscopic studies such as upper GI's, barium enemas, esophagrams and small bowel follow through are performed on a digital fluoroscopy unit employing direct digital radiography.
3. Assists in training employees and student technologist, coordinates radiation safety, receives patients and explains procedures, prepares x-ray room and equipment; performs portables, OR procedures, emergency room (Triage), and recovery room.
4. Maintains records of patients examined, and studies performed in the VISTA hospital information system and CPRS.
5. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patient priorities to accommodate these more urgent requirements.
6. Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, is possible. Incumbent may be required by procedure or patient's condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
7. Properly identifies patient images using left and right markers. This is essential so that mistaken identity of films to patients does not occur. The technologist must be certain that the patient ID band and the request are identical.
8. Performs operator maintenance on equipment as required.
1. Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed in order to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographs while minimizing patient dosage and reducing costs.
10. Performs quality control/assurance checks on studies performed to ensure that only optimally diagnostic images are forwarded to the radiologist(s) for interpretation.
11. Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self. This is achieved by the use of lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lined walls and collimation. Film badges are worn by the technologists to assure compliance to radiation regulations. The incumbent must also be aware of and practice the safety policies and procedures of the ALM VA Hospital and participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
