Major Duties:

• Operates gas or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, wheel loaders, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.
• Operates equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and/or refuse.
• Uses equipment to perform such functions as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials to maintain ditches, road shoulders, and beds.
• These positions will support projects that will help maintain and rehabilitate Grand Canyon National Parks trails systems and viewpoints on the South Rim and North Rim of Grand Canyon.

Area Information:
This position is stationed at Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim located in Northern Arizona. The South Rim is located approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 82 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 90 degrees in the summer to 0 degrees in the winter. Annual precipitation averages around 13 inches.

Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, churches, a recreation center with gym, a public library, a clinic with resident physicians, and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,500 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Flagstaff has a population of about 75,000 and has multiple K-12 public and private schools, Northern Arizona University, and diverse community, medical and other support services. Recreational opportunities include hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities.

South Rim Housing: Permanent and Term employees with a Full Performance Level (FPL) of a GS-09 or WG-8 and above will be provided the option of accepting assigned housing, participating in the normal bid system, or accepting shared housing. Permanent and Term employees with an FPL of GS-08 or WG-7 and below may be provided the option of participating in the normal bid system or accepting shared housing. Any employee assigned to shared housing may continue to bid into non-shared housing.

Starting at $28.36 Per Hour (WG 8)

• Respond to inquiries regarding procedures, policies, and written instructions to ensure task can be accomplished.
• Ensure that equipment and tools are available to carry out task assigned.
• Maneuver forklifts in confined spaces to move material or equipment.
• Provide status updates to management of work progress, delays, and completed assignments.
• Conduct quality control review of the work of lower-level mobile equipment operators to ensure completed work is in compliance.

- Operates forklift trucks, automated material handling and identification equipment to include mobile stock selectors and electromechanical automated equipment such as high-rise automated storage and retrieval vehicles to move, stack and unstack, load and unload, bin, and position material.

- Performs material handling duties, including the use of tools and other equipment, in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.

• Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work.
• Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow supervisor’s instruction and to meet deadlines.
• Works along with other employees and sets pace performing non-supervisory work of the same knowledge and level as that done by the group led.
• Ensures economical use of supplies, safeguarding of tools and equipment, and correct operation/maintenance of same.

• Induct assets, inspect assets and return assets within the business process.
• Ensure weekly schedule is reflective of each shop's capacity, skill and manpower.
• Verify equipment or manpower issues that might impede schedule completion.
• Coordinate with production work centers to ensure the weekly schedules can be achieved.
• Communicate to the Master Scheduler any requirement to increase or decrease the workload.
• Report any discrepancies in program funding, production schedules, or quality to higher management.
• Utilize an automated system to complete logistics program planning such as Logistics Modernization Program and Enterprise Resource Planning System.

Duties:

Major duties and responsibilities include:

· Receiving work assignments and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager.

· Arriving at and departing from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times.

· Reading installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route.

· Enforcing passenger safety and seatbelt use.

· Using multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily.

· Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies.

· Performing operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.

· Maintaining records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.

· Using two-way radios (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations.

· Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
