Under the supervision of the relevant Consultants, initiate, maintain and be responsible for the clinical care of patients. ? Supervise the day to day activities of junior medical staff to ensure that appropriate standards of care are maintained and that junior medical staff are trained to adequately fulfil their duties. ? Participate in the provision of an on-call roster or a shift roster to provide services out of hours, at night and on weekends, as directed by the relevant Director. Transfer and appointment expenses may be negotiated. You will be based at the primary teaching hospital of the well-established School of Rural and Remote Medicine, James Cook University Medical School and plays an active role in medical student and junior doctor education. Clinical services provided include: Emergency Services, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Anaesthetics, High Dependency, Psychiatry, Haemodialysis, Palliative Care, Oncology, Pain Management, 24/7 Medical Imaging (X-ray, Ultrasound, CT Scan and Echocardiography) and Pathology. Up to $70,000 in incentive payments may be available under the Queensland Health Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme  Base salary ranges between $129,583 and $150,240 p.a. (L4-L9).  12.75% employer superannuation contribution.  Long Service Leave and Sick Leave accrual.  Tax savings through salary sacrificing options are also available. 4 weeks p.a. recreational leave with a 17.5% loading/bonus. Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) is seeking motivated doctors for accredited General Medical Registrar positions for the second half of 2024 and 2025 intake. Come for 3 or 6 or 12 month rotation. We are also accredited for acute general medicine Advanced Training. ACCRM, GP, critical care trainees and other encouraged to apply. Minimum PGY3.

The medicine here is entirely unique, around 75% of inpatients are Indigenous - many from remote communities. Co-morbidities and social conditions can be complex and effective communication is essential. The catchment area is over a million square kilometres with a strong focus on Indigenous and remote health.

Alice Springs Hospital is a 183 bed teaching hospital with strong links to Tennant Creek Hospital, Royal Darwin Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre with many visiting specialists from these hospitals.
The Department of Medicine staff consists of a mix of General Physicians and other Specialists, many with dual training. We have local cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, palliative care, oncology, alcohol and other drugs, a large renal unit, gastroenterology and many regular visiting specialists. There is on site general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, paediatrics, day procedures unit and an 11 bed ICU. There are four General Medical teams, a busy Outpatient Department and we provide outreach clinics to some of the most remote parts of Australia.

Alice Springs is the regional hub of Central Australia with an urban population of approximately 30,000 people. It is multicultural with well-established schools and amenities. Alice is bicycle-friendly - rarely taking more than 10 minutes to get anywhere. Out of town are places to camp under the stars, swim through gorges, explore rocky mountain ranges and hit world-class mountain bike trails.
